Ios was one of the islands I visited ona trip to Greece a couple of years back. Its known as the "Party Island' and indeed lives up to its reputation!!

Google it amd i'm sure you'll find some info.

I was there summer 2001 and 2002. Two bits of advice really, stay in the town not the port and pack a spare liver for when you've done the '100 beer shots' :) !

Oh the memories. I got to sot no.27 and performed some involuntary projectile vomiting on my friends leg, . Ooops. TIP: Don't eat a big meal before the 100 shots.

Ios is nothing short of amazing. I was there with 6 friends and the place is full of Irish, Swedes and Germans. . . .and maybe a handfull of Greeks. I think the Greek Mafia are over there, so "don't start nuttin', won't be nuttin".

The weather is bankable, drink is cheap, and the Irish women are sluts :)

Make sure to rent out bikes or a car and head round the Island to some empty secluded beaches. Can't remember the names. Be careful on the 'roads', no tarmac, just rocks and dirt.

PS: If you can, visit Santorini, just short trip on a ferry. Google the name for fantastic photos.

    Kev. (Jealous now)

Was in Ios last year, cant remember too much of it just drank the whole time I was there, didn't even go to the beach...
Great place, its a bit of a b!tch to get to, you'll have to get the ferry there so it depends on where you're flying into.
Everything is dirt cheap, hotel was €12 a night had a bar and a clean pool.
As said previous, loads of Irish, germans & Swedes.

    Enjoy!

let a greek guy answer you then....

ios is indeed THE party island of my country. unfortunately it is also the island with the most fights between drunk guys during the early morning...

so beware of this and also be careful. girls i also agree that are "easy" there, especially early in the morning when they can hardly walk their way to their room/tent.

but trust me it doesnt worth it to go on piss all night long and waste your time where at the same time you can enjoy FANTASTIC beaches on the other side of the island...

i agree with the guy b4 suggesting a short trip from ios to santorini. it is maybe the most "romantic" island we have as it has a sunset that cannot be compared to whatever you can think of....

in case you are thinking of something different than the "typical" holiday on a greek island i would suggest you to have a look here: http://www.sailingGR.eu

trust me this is something you will never forget, and you will visit islands that are not packed of drunk tourists!!!

    the choice is yours ;)

depending on the islands u will go mate

if u avoid the croudy ones you will be fine, but keep in mind that you are heading to greece during the high season....

so be prepared to pay more

one tip, you will find accomondation on EVERY island by simply going to all the people who are waiting on the ports with "rooms to let" banners....

so no need to be stressed about it

ios is close to: naxos (quiet island with wonderfull beaches), amorgos (less touristic and beautiful, also the island that "the big blue" movie was shot), paros (crazy night life, maybe second to ios), mykonos (cosmopolitic and famous for gathering all the gays of the world), koufonisia (small and less crowded islands), santorini (romantic scenery), folegandros (small and very attractive but mostly quiet island)

good luck with your options and enjoy my country

Was there 2 summers in a row. Used to be my favourite place i had ever been to until i went to Thailand. You'll have a complete buzz over there. Im so bitter. No holidays planned, this time last year i was in Thailand drinking on a beach and now im stuck in my shirt and tie selling ads

Drink Appellia wine and Ouzo to fit in. Go to Lou's place in the Square and Scorpion at the weekend when all the little bars clothes. Far out beach is class and they have a nice 5 aside football pitch if you're not too hanging. Women there are class. So many Swedes etc. Went out with the best looking girl ive ever been with the first year there. Although you was dull, she looked great :D Enjoy :(

Typical, you say something that can be construed as being against Greece and it's not cool, but when you are deemed Greek it's ok! Hehe. Actually I'm Scottish but I have lived in Greece for a while and have a great love for the country, and the glorious islands. But, like all Greeks, I hate it also! :D (love it more tho)

Incidentally, I agree with Yannis here about the island of Ios as a whole. Ios is seen as being the party island with great nightlife (although rather vomit-enducing aspects) but the island is actually quite gorgeous. If you can; take a motorbike and go on an adventure. As far as I recall the roads aren't that developed but there is a lot more to the island than the party spots (as is the case with most Greek islands).

Just a point or two on Greek islands:

    1) Don't dirty the beaches. There are many islands where turtles beach to lay their eggs (one that sticks in my mind is Zakynthos) and where there is rubbish and crap - you can hinder the turtles' egg laying.
    2) An Athenian Taxi driver told me that if you are in Crete and find a nice vineyard and sit there eating the grapes all day the local farmer will most likely be fine with you doing that. However, if you go to the vineyard and take the grapes to eat them later - he will shoot you. Greek people are proud of their country and want you to enjoy their land but don't take it for granted and treat it, and the people, like you wouldn't like to be treated.

nope mate, now i will disagree with you on smtg BUT i do agree on all the rest ;)

i dont mind if someone is against greece (believe me i see more negative things in my country than any of you can see) BUT i DO mind when someone just says something without any justification and without putting down the arguments.

and i do explain myself. it is obvious that if someone is greek will know that the prime minister is going for holidays to ios every year. and it is also obvious that the tourist do not know it, should not know, and at the very end, why should they bother to know it? they just come to our islands to have fun and good time. right?

so when i saw the comment about the politians count as mafia, i thought that you are taking the pi*s. later when u replied to me in greek i pressumed u r greek and so u know about that detail..... got it?

and as per your last line..... i do love my country but not for living there.... for holidays its the paradise, for making your living..... it is the hell ;)

hope u understand me, and trust me i do not give a sh*t if someone is greek or not to agree with him/her or not!!!!

where about from scotland r u from? i tried to live in stirling but the uni never accepted me :( and i really like this town!!!!!

    hahahahahahahaha

i just saw it. and the taxi driver was VERY right m8

but i think it is more valid in crete rather than the rest of greece. they are sooooo proud those guys down there.

another thing about them: if you go to their villages (and not to hersonissos and all those crap touristic places) no matter if u r greek tourist or not they do invite you to drink together their local drink called "raki". so guys if u r into really strong drinks pay a visit there ;)

:D get in sweet with the locals in Greece and they'll give you free drink - fact! Greeks have a lovely way of being very generous to someone if that someone respects and has a passion for Greece and the Greek way of life. It's a very family oriented society.

Never knew that about Ios and the PM, I know he lives next to my mate in the hills of Athens and my mate loves him for it when the snow comes as the road-salters take extra special care to salt his road when it freezes over with snow!

    Eimai apo Glasgovi Yan.

Incidentally, I understand how you feel about what I said Yan, but (on that point) I have been told by a couple of older Greek people that I am actually "more Greek than most Greeks as - I want to live in Greece; whereas most Greeks don't want to live in Greece". That's a salty anecdote indeed, but an anecdote nonetheless. It gave me a chuckle no doubt, but I think he was being overly boisterous at the time.

yes m8, it is true that most of greeks do not like live there, BUT very few of them do go eventually away.... most of them prefer to stay with "mama" hahahahah

anyway this is going off the point of the post

glad to meet u in here even under those conditions
