[REQ] dvd player with 5.1?

forgive my ignorance peoples. I have an amp with various speaker outputs and sound inputs. my dvd player used to be connected to the amp with an optical out cable. the dvd player is broke now and I need a new one. Are all dvd players with an optical audio output automatically 5.1 or should it specifically say 5.1 dolby etc…
