OK, I am an idiot, I think.......................if I presed the red button(I think there was a sign saying "do not touch") which then formatted my CF card, leaving me with no photos, is there any way of getting these back????

I dont know what came over me to press the button:confused: It just felt so right, but I knew it was wrong

It depends on the type of camera's formatting, if it just does a quick format, chances are your photos are still there.

A quick google returns this. The most important thing for the moment until you work out what to do is do not write anything new to the card. Good luck !

As m_stan said, don't write anything new to the card. Use some undelete software to have a peek on the file allocation table of the card, and it should help you recover your files. Here's a link to a freeware undelete app, it's at the bottom of the page :

Another option would be to use Photorec.

I've been in this position before and found that all the "free" utils to unformat a card actually look for you to register before giving you anything.

Photorec is a freeware util that basically scans any media for jpg headers and pulls the file out from there.

The only thing is that you need to install Cygwin if your on windows, but thats free too.

What make of card is it? Because my Sandisk card actually came with undelete software for the card on the CD that came with it. Quite easy to miss seeing as most things come with driver and software discs that aren't needed and are usually just looked over.
