You know, despite the fact that High Tension / Switchblade Romance was highly derivative of Dean Koontz's Intensity, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I was expecting some good things from Aja in the future. But for the love of god...

    The Hills Have Eyes
    Mirrors
    Pirahna

    ...all remakes!

All I can think about the guy now is, what a puppet...

I liked the Hills Have Eyes remake.

Can't believe he's touching the legacy of Piranha though. That's a cardinal sin. Don't mind Mirrors though, it was an Asian horror movie so it's gonna be remade.

I really liked Switchblade Romance and Hills remake, I knew he was doing Mirrors but I've never heard of Pirahna being honest.

I hope he snaps out of it and does his own stuff, Switchblade Romance is excellent.

Haute Tension was a great little horror film. I remember watching it the first time and restarting it again to see if I'd missed Dean Koontz's name in the credits.

The Hills Have Eyes was an enjoyable film, but like Tension, it was totally devoid of any originality. It apears that like most of his contemparies Aja is taking the easy route and following the tried and tested formula that, Remakes = Profit.

Of all the remakes currently in various stages of development the only one I'm eagerly awaiting is Halloween. The reason is quiet simple, Rob Zombie. He seems to understand that a remake should have it's own ideas.

I agree with you there, both on the fact that Aja seems to be nothing but a hack right now, and that Halloween is well looking forward to. I agree with Zombie too, remakes definetly should have their own ideas, and in the past, that's what made the best remakes, ag The Thing, The Fly, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, Dawn Of The Dead. All films took inspiration and added a lot of their own. Compare that with, Gus Van Sant's scene-for-scene version of Psycho.

I was slightly worried at first, when I read about Zombie's Hallowen. But then I read some of his comments on his site and the way he talks about the project can't help but install confidence in it. From an interview he did, which can be found here, "Because I have a vision that I believe can work. If I didn't I would go near it."I am basically making a prequel and a semi-remake of the first film all in one. So really in theory there will be more original content than remake content. That's why I don't like the word "remake."
