Minimising external wall dimensions

Im starting to build a mews house so Im trying to minimise the external wall dimensions while still giving me the optimum U-value. I have read through some of the posts on varying cavity sizes, insulation etc but is there anyway to reduce the dimensions under the usual approximate of 310-350mm using alternative building methods (as opposed to timber frame and the traditional block construction) or varying the construction of the wall. I was hoping to get closer to 200mm. The external finish will be render. What are peoples views on R.C.or precast? and what type of insulation would be neccessary to comply with the Building Regs?
