I think I saw a link on boards recently, to a website which had a utility for adding a service pack to a new Windows XP installation CD. This nifty program was also able to add useful things like RAID drivers and it was possible to completely remove useless programs from the windows installation.

I think it began with the letter n, and there was also a version which could be used for linux.

Does anyone have an idea of what I'm talking about??

You're nothing short of a legend. That will save me so much hassle. Thanks!

Yes, nLite is handy. I used it a few weeks ago to slipstream SATA drivers onto an install disc. I did fail twice, but third time I got it right :)

Looks like you're already pleased enough, but just for the sake of it...
I used this guide, very clear and comprehensive.

i found this quite useful also, the site has a script which will download sp2 and all post-sp2 most critical patches before slipstreaming them..then just edit any other settings you like using nlite.
there is also autopatcher if you'd rather let another program take care of the updates.

I was pleased enough. I knew and had tried that method a year ago but I forgot to make the CD bootable so it didn't work. I wanted to take the simple, lazy way out.

But that was before XP setup wouldn't recognise the damn size of the hard-drive. I slipstreamed SP2 but it tells me that the hard drive size is 131072 MB?? The motherboard is brand new and has no problems recognising the 200 GB. Surely XP setup w/SP2 would have the 48-bit addressing support??

The mind boggles!! Any ideas appreciated.

Edit: I spent a couple of hours trying to figure this out but I've gotten nowhere. I used a third party config tool to create a 2 GB and a 198 GB partition and it recognises the size of both even though the quoted capacity of the disc remains at 131072 MB. Installing on the large partition creates a Stop Ox8e error or suchlike on restart.

i had this problem before too, think i updated the bios, but if your bios determines the correct size, no idea why windows w/sp2 doesn't.
maybe just check for bios updates anyway :)
