I'm starting a No More Heroes one-person hype machine, and there's nothing you can do about it!

For those that aren't aware, No More Heroes is a Wii game being developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, and designer Goichi Suda (Suda51!), the people who brought us Killer 7. This isn't a follow-up or sequel and will not be on rails, but it gives you an idea of how awesomely insane he is.

The story. No More Heroes is about a guy called Travis. Travis, an otaku with a love for funky t-shirts, wins a bean katana (think lightsaber ;) on Ebay. He ends up killing a hitman called Helter Skelter, and takes his place in the "hitman" rankings (number 11). The game follows Travis as he goes after the other hitmen, rising through the rankings. It's free roaming (similar to GTA), you'll control Travis on foot or on his motorcycle.

    The pictures. Mmmm.

That last one is a big image, magazine scan. And check out the trailer here.

There is a countdown on the official site, which as of today says 00 days, but no update yet :(

When is it out? Weelll.... supposedly it was going to be released in Japan around the summer (probably later). The European publisher has said that the Euro release will probably be early 2008 :(

It looks vulgar and violent for the sake of it. I for one will be contacting the IFCO and letting them know about this game. ;)

I hope that toilet scene isnt in the game...i'm not using my wiimote for that :o

But those 3 black and white pics look cool. Gonna have to do a bit of digging on this. One of the only games coming out that i like the look of (on the Wii anyway)

I haven't been keeping up with this game but after viewing that trailer it will definitely be on my radar. It looks awesome. I can just imagine it now, a GTA game except without GTA's biggest flaw, a fantastic combat system. Since it's a Suda 51 game it would be sacrilege to himself if he didn't make the combat spectacular. Who needs a star wars lightsabre game when we have no more heroes.

Love the art direction. Also you can really see Suda 51's love of wrestling is influencing this game as well :)

Don't forget the girl with a missile for her leg. (the director has already commented on the similarity between it and the girl in Grindhouse so harping on it is pointless.)

It's not a definite purchase for me at the moment but i'm sure a few reviews and playtests will ramp up my interest, lightsabers are always cool.

Bah, they're all ripping off that chick with the shotgun leg in Gunsmith Cats. ;)

Anyway, Killer7 was an excellent shooter, wasn't it? I'm really, really excited about this No More Heroes.

I wouldn't call Killer 7 excellent, it was potentially excellent but just missed the mark thanks to a few flaws...
This is the first I'd heard of NMH, can't bloody wait for it after watching that trailer!

killer 7 was very good but difficult to get into. Certainly flawed. This looks excellent. Did I read somewhere that this is the same Travis who appears in Killer 7? I'd be interested in the backstory if that is the case!

Nope, IIRC, according to Suda it's not the same Travis.

    New images!

I loved Killer 7, so beautifully twisted. And scary in it's own way aswell.

I loved the way Killer 7 fitted in sly comments on the state of the world today (the world terrorised by invisible suicide bombering monsters etc.). Real work of art and genius even if the gameplay was flawed. I have to finish it some day.

The gameplay takes getting used to, the first time I started playing it was only for a few minutes and it just didn't click. When I gave it a proper try it suddenly made more sense and I really got into the groove of how it plays. I stormed through it in a few days, loved it.
It definitely has a learning curve though, and I think a lot of people played for a few minutes and gave up.
