Dutch Woman Sues Lottery for Emotional Damages

A Dutch woman was so traumatized when her neighbors won the lottery that she decided to sue for emotional damages. But an Amsterdam court ruled that she had no claim, and that sometimes life is just not fair.

....think it would work over here? :D

I work for a Non for Profit organisation that runs a Bingo game, as a means of fundraising.

Just recently we got a letter from a lady saying she was considering taking legal action against us as she has been buying several bingo books, every week for years now, and has never won any more then €400.

I wondered on what grounds she might be planning to base her legal action on, and now I know.... emotional distress!!!

That woman must've been a bit ****ed in the head in the first place, the lottery shouldn't be held accountable for that.

Agreed...how does her neighbours winning emotionally damage her??? Ok well i can understand if she was jealous etc. but sueing? pffft sounds like a nut job to me!

she obviously should logically now sue her neighbours for being the ones who purchased house number 7 before she had a chance

What a wack-job... Going by her logic people who fail their exams can sue cos other people did, people who don't get a job but other people do could sue... Bloody crazy...

If that case was in america would she have won? Possibly...

It has to be a pisstake:
When de Gier's lucky neighbors in the small town of Heusden hit the jackpot, she hadn't even entered.

The judge was wrong in my opinion. If she says she was emotionally damaged then she was. Who is responsible, though? She is, I'd say.

    Agreed.

I thought that America had people like this who would file pointless law-suits. I guess if they think they will get money, they will have a go at it

    In America definately.

I remember reading something awhile back about a lawyer in America who bought some expensive cigars and then had them insured for a million dollars. He smoked them and then claimed them back on his insurance. As expected the insurance company didn't want to pay up and it went to court. The judge ruled that they were insured for fire damage so he got his 1 million.

The next day, he received a court summons from the insurance company who were sueing him for a million for Arson and they won, so he had to pay all the legal fees plus the million they sued for.

I had a dream last night that I'd won euro millions. Was very disappointed when I woke up and realised I was still poor. Why should I sue?! ;)

God I wish it was over here for more things. People sue for the silliest things these days.Where there is any misfortune there is blame.

The courts have created a really silly health and safety industry that will try sell you warning stickers and signs for anything.

There is a big health and safety warning sticker on the microwave, dishwasher, oven and coffee machine in work. And its only a small staff canteen..
