McAfee and Kaspersky

So I bought Kaspersky to replace McAfee. I tried to uninstall McAfee via the Add/Remove programs and everything uninstalled but 'security centre'. Like anti-virus and firewall were gone. Anyway I just went ahead and installed Kaspersky, and its grand. Its just that sometimes it pops up saying McAfee is trying to do something (update I think) How do I stop it? I tried deleting the McAfee folders off the HDD but it said 'make sure its not write-protected' and all that jazz. How can I delete them?

Good choice on Kaspersky. To fully get rid of McAfee go here and download and run the McAfee removal tool. Let us know how it goes.

I hate poxy kaspersky :( turn off the "proactive" defense feature which inundates you with bullsh1t popups to make it more tolerable.

Yeah if you have the firewall in 'training mode' there will be alot of pop-ups. Set it to 'high security' :)

kaspersky is the best out there. the pop ups you speak of yapyap are from an infection you picked up, a nasty one, which I've posted bout how we can fix it in your topics.

Ok I have just un-installed Norton 2005 – 2006 – and 2007. (I do not mean all at once) All of them, which I bought, are to be honest CRAP! I then bought and installed Windows OneCare and after 3 days of it I un-installed that too. Every Virus Scanner I have tried so far just wants to take over my computer including AVG Etc. I have not tried Kaspersky yet and I am not willing to Pay for anything that takes over my computer any more. So what is so special about Kaspersky and will I be disappointed by it after a few days after paying for it? At the moment I am running with no virus protection at all (I know bad mistake but I need something that works and that I have total control of.). At the moment I am in the process of reading the forums on anything I can find to do with Kaspersky.

You can get a free 30 day trial of Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Kaspersky Internet SEcurity(includes firewall and other features). So why not try that and see if you like it

The reason why Kaspersky is loved by all is due to the fact that it has the best detection rate, can remove and find any viruses/malware on your PC, even some of the worst infections you can get. It's firewall is very strong and the real-time protection will pretty much ensure you will practically never get any serious infection ever. Anything you do get can be easily removed with it.

The program is a bit of a resource hog due to the fact that it is so strong, not as much as Norton or McAfee. Personally I don't allow it's real-time protection or run on startup as my PC is old. Instead I just use it as a scanner where it has done a hell of a job for 6+ years. It also is expensive enough, worth it imo, but AVG anti-virus will do a good job, so maybe get that instead. But you should really try the 30 day trial of kaspersky while you can.

    Hope that helps

I have read all the reviews on the forums. But your reply has convinced me to get it so its on the way in a few hours/mins.

    Cheers for the help,

    Great choice on Kaspersky.

A few years ago my PC got riddled when I blindly downloaded & unzipped dubious torrents. The pre-loaded McAffee was useless, AVG & Avast were better but resource hogs. I then tried Kaspersky & could not rate it higher. If your worried anout the £40stg cost then I read somewhere that the free AOL Online Virus Software is just Kaspersky in different clothing.

Not sure if you mean the "AOL Active Shield" which was pretty much a free version of Kaspersky, that seems to have been removed these days :(

Good to hear of another Kaspersky fan.

I've just checked on the AOL site & your right, it's gone.

Instead they link you to download & purchase McAfee. Someone's receiving brown envelopes me thinks.

Have to say that since I got it I have not looked back. I do not even know it is there and yet it is the best protection I have ever had on my computer. Well worth the price. :D:D:D
