Should finally get my registration numbers this week nearly 3 months after applying (had no tax for 3 months, chits from VRO office, wouldn't get away with that in UK with all the ANPR cameras :D )

I went to the VRO at Tallaght on Monday. They said they'd have to contact Rosslare for some sort of code. How long does this take for a classic car where there might not be similar cars on the system?

I went in Monday. Person wasn't in today, but still no joy. Will pop in tomorrow to hand in a transfer of residence form and photocopies. Yes I know it's only €50 but it's €50 I'd rather have myself to pay for the Motor Tax. Also I couldn't get everything done on Monday as I needed to get my PPS number to register it. Pah, new rules!

Car is a DAF 66 SL saloon. I did enquire as to where they were in the 1972 allocation for Dublin and on Monday it was at 72-D-951.

Anyone get their number either allocated very quickly or very slowly?

    Cheers,
    Rich

Just to expand, went to local VRO with 101 within 2 days, they were suprised I bothered but very helpful. Imported my 110 about 3 weeks later and declared that. Got asked for loads more details and life history, proof of residence etc and left it with them. That was early april

They wrote back about 5 weeks ago asking for more info on 101 as they can't find a code for it, supplied that (plus there at least 2 others on the system here).

Rang them today, have reg for the 110 but struggling with 101, will issue it shortly on a dump code if they can't sort it. Not sure whether prob is with local VRO or Rosslare.

I've not been too bothered as they keep giving me chits to say I've tried. Trouble is I'm taking 101 back to shows in UK next month and don't want grief with the large number of ANPR cameras which are also fitted to patrol cars now. Also want to finalise my insurance as well.

Just seen comment about needing PPS number, that was one of my problems. I was a non person for three weeks it took to get number, already declared to UK Inland Revenue I had left. They also insisted on an Irish bank account as well which i hadn't opened at the time.

I've had an Euro account with the Ulster Bank in Dublin for some time now (originally on my UK address). It was cheaper and easier for me to do Euro transfer to The Netherlands / Germany to pay for parts.

I've had the guy from the VRO phone today, still no joy with Rosslare. I keep getting asked if it's a truck!

I will drive down in the car to Rosslare with a big stick and thrash the eejit asking stupid questions!:rolleyes:

When I imported a 2CV from Holland back in 2000, it took ages to get the code. On the dutch registration cert, the car was described at "2CV6 S6". the VRO didn't know what the difference was between a 2CV6 and a 2CV6 S6. I told them over and over again the the S6 code was just an indication that the engine was prepared for unleaded and was only sold on the dutch and german market, but that there were no other difference between them. Still took them weeks to find out that what i was saying was actually right!!!

Took two months, four weeks and 3 days to get the Ford P100 i brought in sorted. The first day i went in with it they threw up every possible obstacle imaginable, were discourteous, i'd go so far as to say damn rude, and were totally unhelpful. They basically didnt believe it existed, then tried to charge me the ate for a 7.5t truck. After waiting two months for them to get back to me and leaving 17 phone messages (the limerick VRO don't answer the phone it would seem) and having gone in several times during the two months to see what was happening , i eventually was told come back in a week and i could register it and pay the vrt, but when i came back in they'd done nothing about it and it was a further two days before i got a reg.

Anyway, my point is that you could be in for a VERY long wait and a lot of frustration, it's not the first time i've had problems like thet with registering a car either.

Been to the VRO at Tallaght today. 3rd visit.

They now have the statistical code back from Rosslare. The request went astray when someone thought it was a lorry. I handed over a big wad of photocopied paperwork and a "Transfer of Residence" form. They're not getting my €50 if I can help it. Whilst I agree it isn't much money, it's still worth about a year's Motor Tax.

So once I've got my exemption request examined, I'll get a number issued.

Tallaght VRO doesn't answer their phones either. Tip: When you get the recorded message press "*" then "2" to skip to the end of it :)

Got my 110 registration through but girl who deals with VROs is now on leave so I've at least another weeks wait for the 101 registration.

Nice one, at least you've got one sorted, the 101 could take a fair while, i think i've only seen one on the road over here apart form some at shows with uk plates. The VRO could be arsing aroung for weeks trying to get their heads around it.
What engine's in it by the way?

It's got a 3500 V8 petrol :D, the standard fitment apart from I've binned the stroms and fitted SUs and electronic ignition. Goes like a bat out of hell from standstill as it's very low geared and will top out a very scary 75ish, lopes along nicely at 55-60 in overdrive and about 12- 14mpg. Used to tow a missile system with it in the UK when it only did 9mpg

Sweet! Good old V8, i'd say it sounds class! Yeah i'd imagine it wouldnt be all that good at top speed... that's the curse of low gearing, gets you goin quickly, and good for pulling loads and goin off road, but i fyou want to get anywhere fast on road you've got problems! I 've got a Ford P100 which is wicked fast up to about 65/70, then it struggles to hit 90 and is really screaming. The old van dif fin the back isnt much good at motorways, popular in rally cars though due to givin great accceleration.
But anyway... 55/60mph is plenty fast to be goin in a 101 i'd say, centre of gravity must be ridiculously high, plust i'd imagine it doesnt exactly corner well...

    Update.

I was callled by the Revenue and asked if I wanted a Euro or ZV plate. I said I would like a Euro, expecting a 72-D as previously discussed. Phoned back 30 minutes later, not too happy about the 3 month gap between build date and UK registration date and that it would be a 73-D plate. So I've finally been allocated a plate.

Thought I'd dredge this up from the past, but finally got my 101 registered today after almost exactly 4 months. :D

Told delay was communication errors between Thurles and Rosslare over the statistical code
