Not sure if its the right forum but here goes anyway......

    Smartlipo
Anyone heard of or know anyone who has had this done? It a laser liposuction that takes an hour to do and the effects are minimal, its a lunch hour procedure as you can go back to work that afternoon. I'm just wondering if its as good as the clinics claim. I would love to have it done as I just cannot shift the belly after having my son. Can anyone recommend a clinic?

    Thanks

Can't recommend a clinic, but saw an article about this recently and the results looked amazing. Seems to take 4 months for the complete effects to show. Let us know how you get on if you do go for it!

    He's speaking the truth mate!

I really wonder what made you post that.

    Two reasons.

    1.Its the truth.

2.I can't stand overweight people, so I wrote that to irritate and hopefully insult them.

I get the impression you're male. AFAIK it's a lot easier for us to lose weight & we're a lot less likely to gain it. I'm almost certain of that for 12-40 yr olds. Probably a few around here who can confirm if I'm right or wrong
2.I can't stand overweight people, so I wrote that to irritate and hopefully insult them

Right, so you can't stand overweight people but when they want to do something about it that has absoloutley no effect on you, you want to irritate & insult them.

When I was younger I used to insult overweight people. I figure it's because I was much shorter than everyone else my age. I couldn't do anything about it so I got angry when people that I percieved could help themselves wouldn't.

I'm rather curious as to what your issue is.

First of all I would like to point out that Dr Indy changed my post from "fat and lazy" to "overweight”. I have no problem with fat people (that’s what they are: fat, none of this "overweight" PC sweet talk) as long as they intend on sorting themselves out by eating properly and doing exercise, i.e. they are not lazy.
The fact is that if you (A) exercise properly and (B) don’t eat too much crap you will not be fat and you will not have a belly. If you do more of (A) you can do more of (B) and so on, this is a physiological fact and unless you have some RARE hormonal abnormality then this will always be the case irrespective of your sex. There will always be people who fool themselves that they have tried their best at loosing the weight and depending on their financial position they will hit the chipper and get fatter or hit some plastic surgery then hit the chipper.
I can't help but be irritated by people that allow themselves to be come fat and then think that they can just pop off to get lipo, its like cheating your body, its just wrong. There are a multitude of problems that can arise from the procedure which would not occur if the fat individual would just skip desert and do a short run every evening with some core work afterwards.
I don't care if you short, fat or even Mr. universe and I certainly am not going to subscribe to this psychological money spinner that if I am a prick to certain types of people it all stems from some shortcoming in my up brining ect and I don't think you should either. The fact is fat people need to sort themselves out and liposuction is just a temporary solution to a permanent problem.

Well I for one can say that the diet and exercise post is completely true.

However as it has been said if you have some hormone abnormality etc it may not be as successful for you as it is for everyone else.

For me, I lost about 50'kg's in weight and I have stretch marks on pretty much 80% of my abdomen. Not to mention extra skin etc etc so for me it seems that liposuction and/or some sort of skin treatment is probably my last resort if I want to look the way I want to look. Of course it is a completely elective surgery and is purely to make me feel better about myself but lately I have realised that it is not that much of a big deal to get lipo done on myself because I already feel good about losing all the weight but I still feel pissed off because of the areas that I cannot remedy through exercise no matter how much I try. So as soon as I get back to Ireland I think I will at least get a consultation (which are usually free afaik) to see what my options are.

I think that lipo is positive for people who have made progress and want the last % of fat or whatever to disappear. It is not good for people who lead apalling lifestyles and decide that they have had enough of diet and exercise (even though, unless it is a medical condition that causes it, they definitely did not do it correctly or frequently enough) and decide that lipo is the only way to be "thin" or whatever name you want to put on it.

I didn't allow myself to get fat, I had a baby. I have lost all of the baby weight (actually weigh less now than before I was pregnant) but I have a muffin-top belly. Unfortunately, I cannot go skipping down the gym every second evening, like I use to because my responsibilities lie elsewhere, I'm afraid. I wouldn't be so narrow-minded if I were you because God knows none of us are perfect and I'm sure you have vices like the rest of us. I was asking for recommendation, not to be insulted by someone who thinks that there is only 2 kind of people in the world - Fat and Thin.

So basically what you are saying is you put on weight, which is a natural product of being pregnant, and now you are getting lipo because you have not got time to go the the gym. Personally, thats fine if you want to. Spade being pronounced a spade here: don't get up on your high horse about it because you are in fact getting lipo because for you the alternative is harder. Which is pretty much what the previous poster said irritated him.

I still maintain that getting lipo etc is, as all elective surgery is, a personal choice. Some peoples reasons are just a little less justifiable than others in my eyes.

Eh, No. I said that I have lost my baby weight and I have excess skin to get rid of and to tone up muscle. Not FAT. Yeah if I didnt have a child I could spend my time in the gym toning up but the fact is I don't have this time. So, what do I do??? Stay unhappy because some twat thinks I should be going to overeaters anon????

Actually you said you had a "muffin-top belly". I fail to see how that indicates that you have excess skin to lose and that you want to tone your muscles.

I think that you will find that I never suggested what you should or should not do. I was simply remarking matter of factly that the motivation you displayed for getting liposuction is in line with the same as a lot of other people, namely to get surgery instead of working it off. Whether or not you are doing it because your lazy or because you have not got time is not the issue. I don't care whether your fat, thin black or white. I think that this entire thread is in fact discussing a particular form of liposuction and has also branched off into the everyday casual attitude of most people towards it. I was simply commenting on your situation aligning with that of many people nowadays. Nobody called you fat and nobody called you lazy. I'm not trying to piss you off and I know that you were calling someone else a twat and not me.

    alright, less flaming please.

Both opinions being expressed here are fair.

Eating well and dieting will deliver results, liposuction will deliver results in certain areas of note.

Be nice to each other and let the debate continue, there are valid points being raised on both sides - please respect them both.

I got SmartLipo done at Chatham MediClinic (on my buttocks and upper arms), and, 7 weeks on, there's no change at all, measurements are the same as before, and a webcam photo diary confirms it. I'm slim, actually pretty toned, 19% body fat, but just wanted to reduce these two stubborn floppy areas. €4,400 for the two areas.....I'll wait until the 4 month point to praise/condemn the procedure as the final results should be in by then. It definitely hasn't worked so far, though!

Did it work for your bingo wings? If you were already interested in your fitness you should've had a long hard look at the kind of training you were doing before spending 4.4k! I've a degree in sports science and did exactly this subject for my thesis.

A mistake many make is failing to realise that there is no such thing as "spot reduction" when it comes to exercise.
For example, if you have a large behind, doing 200 lunges etc per day might eventually tone it, however, it will still be concealed by fat! Only the exertion involved in doing those excercises (and you would have to be doing lunges for about 25 minutes before fat reserves kicked in as an energy source) will contribute to fat-burning. And then the fat will be lost at a fairly equal rate from all the fat reserves on the body: on men, most fat accumulates on the stomach, on women, on the limbs, hips and buttocks. Of course, both sexes have a layer of subcutanoeus fat which would also be accessed.

Getting the body to switch from burning carbohydrate to fats involves a physical activity which exceeds about 20 minutes and raises heart-rate to between 70% and 80% of maximum.
To put it very simply, if you haven't been engaging in weight-bearing exercise 3 times a week that had you on your feet, sweating, just about too breathless to talk and somewhat flushed for about 30 minutes, burning about 300 calories, (put to the pin of my collar, jogging/running are best), then you weren't contributing at all towards the body you wanted. Whatever you were doing, you simply weren't exerting yourself hard enough for long enough.
In fact, given the clues to your somatotype from what you say, what you might not realise is that, in the total absence of any exercise (of the kind you must've been doing) up to the point where you "resorted" to lipo, your body shape would probably have have been more or less the same!

the part you're really not going to like to hear is that from what I've read and heard, if your first treatment hasn't worked by now, it's unlikely to at all, and it's unlikely a repeat session will work either. Then the clinic only has to turn around and claim you didn't change your eating/exercise habits. You might need to ask yourself that question too.

Look at this quote from the FAQ of Ailesburyclinic.ie:

    "Does Smartlipo treat cellulite?
The procedure may improve the body's shape and may improve cellulite to a certain degree."

Spot the "may". I'm sure there were lots of them on whatever you signed before your treatment.
€4.4k would've bought top class running shoes, all-weather running gear and a nice MP3 player twenty times over.
    Use your head!

Hmmm I wonder if Millhouse and Essure have any financial links to this treatment?

I thought there was no advertising allowed on the forum?

    Hi,
Be Warned! I had smart lipo done at Chatham medi clinic last Autumn, the female staff were very nice and good at the hard sell, told me I'd definatly lose a lot of inches, I'm not very over weight but I did have a pot belly that despite v good healthy diet and daily walking would not shift even when I was a size 10 this was always a problem area and annoying and something as the years went by that caused me embarrassment and depressed me as people often thought I was pregnant. So I had the proceedure, It was uncomfortable, I was a bit stiff and sore and swollen, it oozed the first day a lot which was embarrassing and uncomfortable, like melted butter, but I thought it would be worth it if I was going to have a much flatter tummy as I had been assured I would have. I had been told by the lady that sold me on it that I could expect to be losing fat for up to 4months after, that I was an excellent canidate for the proceedure. So filled with confidence and reliability of it after about 3 weeks I went back for my follow up and saw their doctor who had performed the Smart lipo, he said I had gone down almost and inch in one area and nothing in the other to areas of the abdomen ( they measure in 3 areas of abdomen). I asked if I would go down further in the next few months, to which he replied highly unlikely, you only go down in size in the first few weeks after the Smart Lipo and what you loose then is what you loose. I was devastated after spending 2,500 euro (which i didnt spend lightly, I'm not well off, I work hard for any money I earn and saved up and researched this as much as I could, and i like to think I'm no fool and quite intelligent) all I lost was 1inch and wasted hopes. The women of Chatham Medi clinic saw I was upset and said no he's wrong you will go down. I didnt, and I never heard from them again for another follow up. It seems what I oozed the first day was all I lost as well as the hole it burned in my pocket. The only change in my tummy area is that the fat seems softer more dispersed not so much pot as all over now. Plus there is a slight ridge in one area where the doc had been over zealous in one area. Basically I think it was a scam, that if you really want to go down the cosmetic route than maybe only full liposuction will work, I wouldnt ever go that route myself though! I could think of loadsa things I could do with that money I could do that would make me feel way more relaxed a massage facial, holiday or give it to charity not into the pockets of people who prey on people's insecurities and fleece people's hopes and dreams. More fool us!

OMG whats that absolute clown on? Take no notice new mammy, some people just don't get it.... Maybe after Mr know it all here has given birth he'll have a reason to think he has a right to an opinion on a baby tum... Go for it if its what you want, can't advise you on lipo but did have another procedure done after breast feeding.... Absolutly no regrets, would highly recommend getting a hand when mother nature has bailed!!!

Ohy my god I can't believe that there are such horrible people in the world.
Oneeyedsnake? Why should you care if someone with a little extra baby weight wants to get smart lipo. More's the point why are you even reading this thread, have you nothing better to do with your life that to post horrible messages on message boards? I pity you.
Lets all hope girls, for the greater good, that he grows as massive beer belly that no excercise will shift, and that all his hair falls off his head and starts growing down his back (if it hasn't already), making him seek expensive weight loss treatments and hair re-groth hormones and back waxing treatments.. and if he doesn't? Well we'll just call him fat bald and lazy and be done with it.
