This is bugging me, work lappy is a dell latitude d820, 2 ghz intel processor, 1 gig of ram etc, newish machine, running xp and office 03.

im currently working on a couple of excel spreadsheets about 10mb each and it grinds to a halt when switching from one to another or when clicking links in one?

works fine on the guys beside me 4 year old machine and on my home laptop which is a similar spec to the work one.

any settings that could be causing this?

Create a new user on your laptop, log into it and open the same files. Is it faster?

what version of excel are you using ... check that you have not got drives mapped that are no longer available ... saw this happen recently on office 2003/xp , once the drive was disconnected everything was hunky dory again.

I'd hazard an educated guess that it's your AV software (remove xls from the scanning otions), but to be sure open task manager sort my CPU % and see what uses the CPU when you flick between worksheets/spreadsheets.

Alternatively it may be down to a toolbar setting (are there any additional plugins you have installed? printing/pdf etc).. quit Excel, look for a file called excel11.xlb and rename it and restart Excel.
