Forum very quiet?

This may not warrant a new thread and Mods if you want to move it to the bad beat sticky go ahead.

Ive noticed over the last couple of weeks the quantity of posts and new threads on the Forum has taken a nose dive. When I come into work in the morning there is always at least 2 pages of threads with new posts for me to read and the bbs would have on average maybe 25 new posts. Today, there was 8 threads with new posts and 12 new posts in the bbs.

My question is, has anyone else noticed this and what do you think the reasons are behind it?

My opinion is that certain people who used to contribute alot have stopped posting as frequently and by the looks of things have turned their attention more towards 2+2.

Maybe its due to the amount of threads being locked/deleted?

Any thoughts or is it just me noticing this?

Can't say I have noticed it but even it has happened, wouldn't worry too much, could be all number of reasons, people away, people at the WSOP, busy with work etc etc.
I am sure when the main event is on, things will pick up in terms of post count anyway.

    wsop, work, holidays, etc etc..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,437 ✭✭✭luckylucky

Could it be as a result of people being put off by a minority of posters who make a lot of negative comments?

quite a few frequent posters seem to be running very bad also leading to a decline in output...

Maybe it is just the time of year but I dont remember it being like this last year and the WSOP time was the busiest time on the Forum.

I agree that it may be because of the negative attitude of a lot of posters.

Also, I love stuff like lloyds and bcb argument, I found it hilarious.

I'd love to know why people have this perception? Can you give several examples of threads being locked where they were not spam or conspiracy theory type things?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

Yes, there simply aren't that many threads being locked. Everyone seems to just say it....

And this is very normal. The forum goes through ups and downs all the time. This time of year always sees a slow down in my esperience.

    in before lock.

In before delete to cover up lock so people can never provide examples when asked.

There is a simple solution to this - post more.

Whats the story with the negative tone. I was merely asking a question and I got a few responses. I said if you want to move it you can?

Whats the harm in asking the question? Im not complaining, or bitching or moaning and Im not saying the Mods are doing anything wrong? I was just wondering did anyone else think the post count has dropped significantly?

    No need to get defensive.

It wasn't just aimed at you Eoghan, and also, you should know I am a grumpy cúnt anyways, so imagine how bad I am in the mornings?

people being too nice has led to a decline in the quality of adivce recieved/given which in turn reduces the number of posters and threads, i dont think people are harsh enough at times. if you want a compliment ask your mothers, if you want advice then brace yourself, you may not want to hear it but its usually correct.

I can agree with you here on some points but the attitude of "look Im real cool and I know more than you so Ill answer in a condesending way" is not really necessary and its just some people trying to look cool to their mates.

If someone asks for advice they should be prepared to be criticised and thats fine but some people are so up their own arses its annoying, especially for newbies Id imagine.

I get the feeling the forum is going through a transitional stage.
I was a long time lurker and remember there being numerous posters who offered decent high quality advice-unfortunatly some of these posters dont post AS much anymore and there doesnt appear to be people to step up and replace them.I think its just the natural evolution of a forum which balances out over time.

Yip this is what I meant too, nothing at all wrong with harsh criticism especially if you actually asked for advice, but there is no need for condescending comments, which are not unique to threads for which people actually ask for advice btw.

I suppose that is par for the course on forums. I'm just going to have to get a whole lot nastier myself in response grrrrrrr ;)

Anyway not sure how much of an impact this has had on posting, probably won't really know because the posters who it has affected won't be around to confirm.

The college and wsop factors makes a lot of sense now though that I see them mentioned.

Please stick to the topic. Off topic posts are likely to get you banned, especially if you have no frequent poster brownie points built up such as you two brave young fellas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,243 ✭✭✭✭Jesus Wept

I think its the time of year, I've noticed other forums are more quiet also.

Perhaps there are some stats somewhere to support this, where is DeV when you need him :)

someone remarked earlier about looking for compliments ask your mother but for down to earth advice this is the place - so I made a friggin joke on a thread that really wasn't going anywhere
