While God wrote the Origional 10 Commandments in stone in Exodus, Chapter 20. The Catholic Church has just added another batch of 10, this time aimed at drivers who might be tempted to commit such sins as road rage. I guess they are a bit too late for the new edition of the Rules of the road!

    1. You shall not kill.

    2. The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm.

    3. Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events.

    4. Be charitable and help your neighbor in need, especially victims of accidents.

    5. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin.

    6. Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so.

    7. Support the families of accident victims.

    8. Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness.

    9. On the road, protect the more vulnerable party.

    10. Feel responsible toward others

this is a state document from the Vatican. It should be recognised as nothing more, nothing less. It is not a set of commands passed down by God.

While I'm not a Catholic, I applaud the Vatican for releasing this. I think all of these 'commandments' are practical application of principles taught in Scripture.

I dont think they attempt to say that they are from God or are infallable or anything, just reminding people to be nice

A cracking good idea - some decent ethical rules at last!

It'll be interesting to follow this up by checking the accident stats to see if catholics pay attention to this. Would any catholics care to comment?
