Is there manual zoom on compact digital cameras? or is it always autofocus?

I don't think I've ever seen manual focus on a compact.

generally if there is manual focus, you'll find it via a function button on the back. You might have a dual function button that says MF on it. Normally you'll press that, then move a slider or a rocker switch to change focus. It's unlikely you'll touch the lens...
