Realistic Doubles Wii Tennis - is it doable?

    Hi all,
I have an idea for a particular Wii set up that could be fun just want to bounce it around here to see if it's doable.
I'd like to play four player doubles tennis - this is doable
I'd like for each team (two players who share one side of the court) to have their own screen - This should be doable if you split the screen signal in half and feed it to a screen each.
I'd then like to put these screens back to back and have the four players take each other on in a "realistic" game of Wii tennis where the back to back screens would be in the position of a net in real life - This would seem to be the hard bit. With Just one sensor bar only one side of the "net" would be in control. Is it possible to multiplex in two sensor bars or am i dreaming?
Hope ye understand what i mean, any help would be appreciated

I get you. You don't need the sensor bar to play tennis.

really? is the sensor bar only for the pointer on screen then. Apologies for my ignorance i've only had the Wii for a couple of weeks at a time and never got to do much experimenting

The sensor bar doesn't sense. All it does is transmit an infrared signal, which the Wii remotes pick up. You could use two candles instead, apparently..

However, there are still a couple of issues you will likely face:

    1) If you have the screens back to back, then the actions for the players on the wrong side of the screen will be back to front (not right to left, which would be an easy right hand to left hand swap, but reversed). Perhaps this will not be an issue with a second set of trasmitted signals (Infra Red / candles), but better make sure that the remotes can only 'see' one set of transmitters, or they'll get confused.

    2) You'll still have the split screen, with one team being on the left and one team being on the right. This is how the game works. You cannot have one team on one screen and the other team appearing on the other screen. You would need a true multiplayer game for that..

So really, all your getting is a bit of extra space. Get a projector in a large room instead..

    Thanks Krusty,
just trying to understand what you are saying.
As i understand it the "swing" data is sent form Wiimote to Wii via a bluetooth connection hence the sensor bars are not used to receivee this data. Are they however used in some way to generate it? i.e. does the Wii need the sensor bar at all to play tennis?
As i said perhaps experimentation is the best way to sort this one

The sensor bar is primarily used to calibrate the Wii remote, i.e. to let the Wii mote know where it is in relation to the sensor bar, i.e. is the Wiimote pointed at the sensor bar, is it pointing to the left of the sensor bar, is it pointing to the right of the sensor bar, etc. This is mostly used for pointing at the screen (e.g. using menus, firing guns/arrows), but can be implemented in games for other functions.

As Fringe has suggested, it may not be required for Wii tennis, if they use only the accelerometer functionality for the tennis game, but if it does, you can as suggested, use a third party solution, or a couple of candles/torches to mimic the sensor bar, just as long as the other Wii motes (on the other screen) cannot 'see' each other's 'sensor bars'.

you wont need the sensor bar during the match, only for selecting teams and such that could be done from one side.
