I did a dog training course with John Clifford. He doesn't do it except in extreme circumstances. He is a trainer that works with check chains so you know. What type of training you looking for? Basic or advanced? I am now in Waterford so if that helps I can give you some pointers. My name is Mary Rea if you wish to ask John Clifford. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply's. I just want to teach a pup the basic's. I've had some success training her indoors (sit. lie down etc..) but the minute we go outside the front gate I cannot get her attention no matter what I try! I just dont what to do. Its really important to me to train her properly as I want to be able to bring her anywhere without a second thought. She's still very young, about 3 months. Maybe I'm expecting a lot?

Mary when you say John uses check chains is that something similar to choke chains? My dog, rascal, is a pattersdale terrier cross and pretty small so i dont want a training method thats too harsh!

Its so unfair, Dublin have a load of dog-training facilites!!! :(

Thanks again for your help guys!

Georgina- Check chains are the same as choke chains. When used properl they can be successful. But recently some trainers in the US have noticed the neck is damaged with continous use in training with it. At 3 months they are hyper so don't despair too much. Try by getting training when she is after exercise, all her excess energy is gone. Get her attention with her favourite toys/treat and go through your routine. Praise lavishly when done on command. Try not repeat the command alot as the dog will learn it doesn't need to do as its told until after 4 goes.
Where are you based? If you want anymore help I'll be delighted to help best I can :) hope thats of help to you.

Georgina - with reference again to dog trainers, where abouts are you based? There is a very good trainer who helped my sister with her GSD pup Kesh in Ballincollig and surrounding areas. Not sure how far she'll go but highly recommend her. she does do puppy classes in Ballincollig community School. Her name is Jennifer dowler - in the golden pages under dog trainers. Hope that helps.

    Hi
Just renewing this thread. In need of obedience training classes for my dog in the Cork area.
Have found a few places through researching on the internet but would prefer to get advice from people who may know first hand

I've heard good things about the Dog Listener, based in Cork City. Got their recommendation from 2 pet shops and 1 owner so far, but no personal experience myself.

We used Grace Buckley for our dog. She's excellent!:D

Grace has a puppy class which runs for six weeks and socialises dogs through play. She then has an intermediate class for dogs six months up, and has her classes in Greenmount Community Centre on Sunday mornings.

I've also heard Jennifer Dowler is good as well, but no experience.

PM me if you need the no.
