What to wear to an agency?

    Hi

I have a meeting with an agency in a few days for a banking position and am wondering what to wear?

I have quite a few of meetings with agencies and always wear a suit - but I am getting tired of going in trying to impress them as a lot of them give me the run around.

    Would smart casual be ok?

    thanks

    A strap of dynamite :D

But if you are too passive for that, then I think smart casual would be fine (ie: shirt, slacks/nice jeans & shoes). I only wear suits to actually job interviews, IMO it's not worth your while even thinking about taking your suit out of the wardrobe for an agency.

Definately ok. You are going in for a chat really. So long as you are clean and tidy they'll be pleased. A tracksuit....maybe not. I used to get in full work suit mode until one of them said one day there's no point. So long as you are presentable it's grand.

Damn good idea given the behaviour of some recruitment agencies as posted on this forum! Since that's not really advisable though, my advice would be to go as formally as you can, OP, without actually going the whole suit hog. I recently went to an agency to register and I dressed in black trousers, plain shirt (not quite a blouse - smarter) and a blazer (all purchased in Penneys :)). Presuming you're a guy, go with the male equivalent.

    hi

heres the advice from one of the devils children (or recruitment consultant to you) - dont meet them unless they have a specific, still open job that your skills meet. Try line them up in a row and DO dress as you would for an employer interview.

If the agency, just like employer, have too many suitable people, making the effort on the extra things like dress may make the difference.

    Good luck

As you've probably advised: keep working your way up the ladder... ;)

I'd got for smart clothes as well. A shirt should do it for a lower banking job.

Stick with the auld tin as you'll probably end up in a job requiring it anyway.

Failing that, reasess what it is you really want to do in life.

I wouldn't even wear a bin liner for those agents. I have zero time for recruitment agents, bunch of unqualified monkeys IMO.

mmm a bit of a generalisation considering I am a qualified accountant and have a Masters in Organisational Psychology.............

but a well thought out argument none the less
