So, my father is completely bald, and I'm starting to show signs of balding....receding hairline, thinning at the crown. I've long hair right now, and it suits me, I really haven't got the properly shaped head for short hair. I really don't want to be bald. I'm just wondering what sort of treatments are out there now? I've Google searched but I've a hunch half of the immediate results are bollox. Anyone got any really good methods that actually work?

    Thanks!

I would think that if your hair loss is hereditary then there isn't a whole lot that you can do about it. You should probably discuss it with your GP.

Could U not shave the whole lot off ?
    Get a few tatoos ?
    Grow a few muscles ?

I tell U - the girls luv that look. It makes them
break out in a sweat all over.

    Try the Balding hair forum.

Afaik there's not much to do. Maybe those remedies Rogaine and whatnot work but don't hold you breath.

AFAIK, baldness has little to do with the genetic inheritance you receive from your father's side of the family; it comes from your mother's side - at least in part. However, even this common belief is being questioned, and it is now thought - apparently - that balding is far more complex than previously assumed. In other words it can't solely be pinned on your mother's side.

    Sorry...

    That's no help at all.

Why would you be worried about going bald? It's hardly an impediment

Baldness is by no means an impediment. It just wouldn't suit me! I shaved my head before and it looked terrible! My head/face just doesn't suit short hair. I don't know, maybe I'm over judging this. I've grown up a lot and maybe short hair'll suit me.......we'll see....

There's no holding back evolution. Consider yourself one rung higher on the evolutionary ladder than most of the rest of us apes. :)

Don't waste your money man. Unfortunately there are no products out there that will stop hair loss. Rogaine had FDA approval in the US but its effectiveness is minimal at best.

I used to have long hair too. Girls used to actually like me! Then God, with his perverse and ironic sense of humour, decided it would be fun to make it all fall out. My hair started thinning when I was 20 and to make it matters worse neither of my brothers have displyed any signs of thinning hair yet! (Which makes me believe more firmly that this is God's doing and nothing to do with genitics)

Seriously though, its important not to be too negative about it. Some people get really consumed by it and thats how the market for these magic bean formulas is created. You might not look as bad as you think. What good will freting about it do when there's nothing that can be done?

You could learn a lot from these guys

You could always just shave it all off now (and for charity) it will save you the hassle in the long run of gradually watching your hair disappear strand by strand. Plus patchy heads look kind of silly. Hold on to it as long as you can to say goodbye, then take the razor.

'Yeah, I've been going at this the wrong way. Vanity isn't a good path to take. If
I do take hair enhancers then I'm really cheating nature, and I wouldn't be comfortable with that. Plus, it'd probably look stupid and really obvious! I'll take this as a blessing and not take it a burden.

I'll be getting my hair cut soon, although, not fully-shaved! I look like a bhuddist!'

A friend of mine had long hair and started receding in his early 20s. He was starting to look a bit like Bill Bailey so he got it cut. Whatever way he got it cut, the receding hairline is barely noticeable - he has it kind of brished forward so you can't really see his temples. Unfortunately, my hair is naturally thin anyway so I couldn't get away with that.

There's absoloutely no harm in trying rogaine for a few months. It does work for a small amount of people but it only really slows down hair loss as opposed to halting it.

    Buy a wig?

Having had reaaaallllly long hair when I was a young fella, my hair started to fall out when I was 19. It bothered me inititally until 1 day I decided to shave the whole feckin lot off. I keep it shaved now every week or so and don't think I'd even like to have hair now. If at this stage I was to let it grow, it would grow at the sides and back but nowt on top. I'm happy as I am cos I got used to it and to be honest, so did everyone else. I'd be the laughing stock of the town if I arrived into the pub now with a super duper hair transplant :D
