Was looking for peoples advise on dating....

I was in several long term relationships til I hit about 32 and have been single more or less since (3 years and Im female). I feel that I am independent, I have work hard and travel a lot cos I love it but find it hard to move beyond stage 1 of dating. I really love socialising and meeting new people but I dont seem to be able to get beyond a couple of dates and develop new relationships.

A friend has been telling me about this guy she knows for about a year. She thinks we would get on well together but we live about 4 hours drive apart. Anyway, he called me last week for a chat and suggested we meet for a drink and I agreed.

We have a lot of mutual acquaintances and I dont want to mess this one up. The reason I am posting is because if I like someone I dont really know how to act. I think I come across as cocky (when Im not) and maybe too independent when in reality I would love to meet someone. I also dont feel I know the right signals to send if I like someone..... I dont want to play games but I dont want to be a walkover either....

    Any ideas people? :)

You are putting the horse before the cart, so to speak.

I think you are creating problems before they actually manifest themselves, assuming they ever do. Relax and think positive.

Its not about this guy in particular it for my general use :)... I feel that I come across as if I dont need someone and maybe that I am too cool at times and dont let people in....

Be a good listener and don't ask to many work questions.
Let the conversation flow and keep it light,
It's a first date not an interview for marriage.
My advice would be not to talk about yourself like
your reading it from your C.V.
Nerves often come across as arogance when people
    talk non stop about themselves.
Be sure to speak well of your mutual friend's,
men in general don't like bitchy women.

You can be feminine and girly without being seen as a bimbo.
Being a strong career woman is a persona best left at work.
He will probably know a bit about you from friends so your not
    starting from scratch,which is good.
He is hardly setting out on his first date to "walk all over you"
    so think positive,

    Good luck.

He'll be as nervous as you are as the onus will be on him to entertain you.
Good luck with the long distance thing.

I guess I just wanted to know how to be more charming with the opposite sex.
