Hey lads, im after getting a wii and i dont have a clue about any of its features!

Is the wifi built into it? I was playing around with it and looking at certain settings and it said i have the option of a wired or wireless connection. There are 2 usb ports on it, so i assume that if i want a wired connection i have to get some sort of external network card?

Do the batteries effect the er, pointer thingy? Im finding that alot of the motions that im making are not really being read by the console.. for example in boxing from wii sports the nunchuck doesnt respond the way the controller does and there is a bit of lagg on the remote itself (split second off) is that how its ment to be?

Also, im looking at getting a game or two, and i would like to play something online with some mates, so mario strikers charged is the only game i can see being available atm.. is it worth the money? What other games should i look out for? Im not a massive console gamer - i just want something to play with my mates, competition is a must!

It's wifi ready so all you need is a wireless broadband connection. If you dont have that then you need to the the wii network adapter. it's about 30 euro and you plug it between the modem and wii console.

The batteries do effect the wii remote but you should try checking the sensitivity of the remote int eh wii settings on your wii home page! Also make sure the sensor bar is in the right position. Top of tv or below it but check the settings again to make sure it's active on the console in the right position too.

Mario strikers is the only online game at the moment and yes it;s a great game. But if you're looking for competition then try tony hawks or ssx which are good craic or the driving games like 4X4 or excite truck! They come with a steering wheel attachment for the wiimote with is great.

my gf took to the p1ss out of me this morning, apparently i was playing wii in my sleep.

Lying down on my back at 5am with both my hands infront of me rotating my wrists fast asleep - so addictive!

I had to give my wimote a good hard shake the first day before it would work properly (something must have been stuck).

Wifi is built in yes, do you have a wireless router? It's very easy to set up then.

Batteries could affect it, but where is your sensor bar set up? Is it directly underneath the TV, or directly on top? Did you calibrate it?

Mario Strikers is the first online game, and from what people have said on boards seems to be a lot of fun, especially multiplayer (haven't tried, not into football games). Rayman is a good laugh, Zelda is a must have, people here recommend Godfather for the Wii too. If you haven't played Resident Evil 4 yet then definitely get that for the Wii, it's out on the 29th.

i was thinking of skipping the whole 70 odd quid wireless router lark and just getting a USB wifi pen thingy and using my machine to host the server..

    That should work... shouldnt it?

Of course, don't bother getting the official Nintendo one tho any generic Wifi USB stick will do the same job as long as it's in Ad-hoc mode and not infrastructure.

I'm not into football games either, but Mario Strikers is great craic! I was really dubious about it before getting it, and I love it! As does my brother who loves his Pro Evo, I didn't think he would like it as it's not serious football.

The Godfather is great too, again, one that surprised me by how much I enjoy it. Wii-motion tyre iron ftw ;)

Since when is a Mario Soccer game anything like football? :)
I hate the sport, but damn that game is fun, especially in teams, well worth getting, regardless of football interest.

Excite truck is great craic with a few friends about, so I'd recommend that, great single player too.

Instead of starting a new topic on it, I'll post here.

Also just got a Wii. Just a few mins ago found this forum. Really helpfull. Had no idea it had wifi.

So whats mario like? Should I rent it first before buyinh? Pobably cant rent wii games yet. Can one play sports on multiplayer on internet? Boxing would be sweet. When I first opened it. I played it for 2 hours.

Currently the only Online capable game is mario soccer, but new games should start using it a lot more regularly now.
