Sky+ missing recordings getting stuck

I've had Sky+ for 2 years and was a big fan. In the past week

    1) it has missed a few recordings - still in planner just don't get taped but if you reboot box they then get taped from that point

    2) quite a few failed recordings

    3) box just goes into standby mode every so often

    4) sometimes when slecting an item to view - select or sky buttons won't work. you are effectively frozen but can choose to vary where to view the programme eg start, viewer defined, end etc but can't escape from the screen without rebooting the box.

Box has been rebooted 2-3 times per day now for a week.

I'm was assuming a faulty box but have been reading similair although not always the same symptoms since the recent software upgrade. I see a few people on digital spy have wiped their boxes and started again but this doesn't appear to have worked for anyone. I really don't want to lose stuff I'm keeping on my box.

    Any advice or ideas?

Have you tried the planner rebuild option?? You wont lose anything that way.

Your HDD could be on its way out. However, do as Steveon suggests and do a Planner Rebuild. If there's nothing important on the drive and the Planner Rebuild doesn't work, try the Full System Reset (ALL recordings will be lost).

Thanks planner rebuild appears to have worked.

I didn't want to do a full reset as I have stuff I want to keep and haven't got around to getting a DVD writer yet.

As a matter of curiousity: If the drive fails, can you just stick in another IDE drive?

Yes you can, however their are various version of the sky + box and this limits the size of the HD you can replace or upgrade it to. As previously posted throughout the site a handy guide is available here

I wouldnt recommend upgrading your HD if it is still under guarantee however, as if the security seal is broken, your guarantee is void.

Also note that not just any IDE HDD will work in a Sky+ box. For example, for the Pace PVR3, most sites seemed to only recommend a Samsung CE (consumer electronics) drive, and of course a similar Maxtor HDD, like what's already inside.

I upgraded my Pace PVR3 with a 250GB Samsung CE drive (can't recall model now), and it's been running smooth ever since. I did have failed recordings many times with the not-so-old original Maxtor.
