Should really be in the Recycle bin, tbh.

Good old Sky News, keeping the tabloid hysteria going.

Having read the article, the only thing is:

    1. The headline says "31 children rescued", but the article has absolutley nothing about it. Were they being held hostage, or what?

    2. The guy in question seems to have already been tried and pending sentencing, which tells me that the ring was already broken up a number of months ago when theis guy was first arrested. Are Sky News just bringing this up as "peado ring smashed" to continue to fan the flames of hysteria? Surely they wouldn't? :p

I have to agree with Séamus, the BBC site mentions rescued children as well but doesn't say how these children were rescued.

I'm guessing that the people involved have been identified by police and have either been arrested and pending trial or their access to these children has been removed.

I know it's 'breaking news' but it seems as though the reporting is pretty hit and miss.

Perhaps there was a press embargo on the trial? Even so, it that's the case then you would imagine that the journalsits would have the stroty ready to go as soon as the embargo was lifted.

EDIT: The BBC article has been updated and now reveals much more information...scary! The fact that police assumed this guys online identity to identify other paedophiles suggests that there was an embargo on reporting for at least some time.

Seeing as there's nmo details I'd imagine it's some sort of statistical estimate based on how many would have been kidnapped & abused if this ring wasn't broken up

No apprently most of the children were already on a socail services list of children at risk and were id and one would assume took into care.

Yeah, this is what it appears is the story.

It does however seem like the media weren't told about this for a while and then went on a bit of overdrive today.

I love how the police assumed his online identity. Shows that those who think they're anonymous have no idea who they're talking to. It's not about criminals being savvy enough to use the Internet, it's about a collective ignorance that allows them to operate.

Although being sentenced to an "indefinite" period in prison is a bit worrying. Was that a preliminary sentencing or what?

They are sorting out a full list of charges to try get him on all possible counts.

It seems to be along the same lines of someone being sectioned, as Cox was deemed to be a significant risk and is being imprisoned for public protection.

I suppose to some degree it's working under the theory of paedophilia being a mental illness and so needs to be treated like one. Naturally it's not the same if they're sent to a regular prison rather than a proper institute, but it's not clear what kind of facility he's going to.

He should never be left out. What kind of a sick ****er encourages and makes money from harming children. Imho the people who receive the images should suffer the same fate. Chemical castration is also an option but reports from the US show it is not always a success.

Chemical castration is not an option in Ireland but proposals are in place in the UK to bring this in! See here for (a very brief) discussion.

According to the latest reports (third paragraph from the bottom) another man in the UK has also been arrested who tried to keep the site going after the owner was arrested. I'd like to know the timeframe for this as this reporting seems to conflict with the idea that the police assumed his identity and carried on running the site as normal? That makes the reporting even more confused.

Interestingly, this man lived at home with his family and girlfriend and ran the site from his bedroom. I'm sure the entire family and girlfriend were questioned as a result.

/What's also scary from my perspective is that this guy lived less than 15 miles from where I currently live.
