SO where are they i got a email from sony last week saying some games will be on the the site to download ( wipeout crash bandicoot syphon filter etc ) checked it last night still no sign ?? .

These sites are rubbish both LIVE and SONY's never have anything worth downloading bar the odd demo , really poor old arcade games and trailers .

Sony's one is a bit better with Tekken and GT lemming on it bit stil very very poor show when you consider how many movies music etc sony own .

Couldnt agree with you more. Very poor effort on Sony's part. I read on IGN or some similar website not long ago that they are planning to introduce music and movie downloads to the playstation store before the end of the year. But they said that about the PSP last year too so I wouldnt get my hopes up.

The PSone games are due on Friday on the store. Super Stardust HD is due the following week.

If it's any indication of progress, Sony is letting go of the 'Sony Connect' effort and redistributing 80 people from that team toward supporting Playstation. So it sounds like they are trying to ramp up things on that end.

Sign up for a U.S account, AFAIK it doesn't check the address when billing a card, so you can just fill in a generic American address.

You need to use a Mastercard as the billing address is checked against VISA cards.

Once the purchase value is below $50, the billing address is not checked AFAIK.

None of this is a matter of need. All of this is a matter of want. If you want more content, the posters above were simply pointing out a way to do that which is very easy if you have the right tools (i.e. a mastercard).

Their comments were helpful, unlike the troll-ish fanboy-ish comments you litter this forum with.

Even if Sony integrate the Connect service into the PS store and offer music, movies and tv shows for download, the service will still probably be region based as it is now. And we will still be in the same boat with Japan and the US getting the lions share of the content, while the EU gets shafted with rubbish and infrequent updates.

    I would guess so.

Well, if Ireland gets the same content as the UK, we'll probably be better off than most of the rest of Europe. Which may not be saying much, I agree..if one thing gets on my wick, it's the regionalisation of the internet, so to speak. I hate it in iTunes, I hate it on certain sites that block access to certain countries, I hate it on Live.

I wonder if access to the US/JPN stores will still be possible then or if they'll restrict it even further as MS is doing on Live.

I hope not. Sony must realise by now that a lot of people from EU countries are setting up US accounts. Why is it so hard for them to just set up one global store where ALL content is available to EVERYONE who has PS3. It is really frustrating having to set up us accounts to download those HD Transformers trailers!!!

Could you imagine the traffic if the world was going trhough one store.

If they could they would so there is obviously a technical issue solving this.

And please dont post a massive thing of techno jumbo crap to try prove me wrong im not interested.

If they could they would, their not making more money from splitting it up?

But it could also be a case of them testing material in the likes of japan or usa before it reaches europe. If this is the case be grateful your getting good material.

Can you download games/demos/upgrades etc on to a usb key and then transfer it to the PS3? This is for those without broadband.

I don't think it's a traffic issue..I think it's a content licensing issue. Unfortunately the companies that own stuff like movie and music content typically don't sell global licenses..they sell licenses per territory, so that's why you see different territories with different iTunes stores, and different Live marketplaces, and different Playstation stores. It sucks, for sure. I think within the EU there'd be a case for challenging any effort to prevent a person in one EU country accessing a store from another EU country, at least.

Aedh Baclamh - you can download PS3 firmware updates to USB keys, or CDs or DVDs, and transfer to your PS3 from them. But the PS Store content can only be downloaded from the PS3 at the moment (although there's apparently some shady software out there that lets you download stuff on PCs..the PS Store is basically a webpage technically, so..).

i was watching "on the spot" on gamespot.com a couple of weeks ago and a guy from sony was on to show the new firmware updates that were recently put on the PS network. Suffice to say i was well impressed (upscaling for both DVD's and PS 1 & 2 games). So now playing the likes of god of war in HD is possible (ok, a fake HD, but i will take it)

the real point I would like to make is that this update was released worldwide on the same day, so I would say that SONY were confident that they could handle the challange of a lot of people downloading at the same time. I heard there were a few probs but overall it went smoothly.

SONY have also stated that they wish to make the downloaded service regarding games a worldwide feature in so much as available on the same day worldwide. I also believe that the main problem with the ps 1 & 2 games for download is 1. that they have a compression problem and 2. third party developers are asking for a bump-up in royalties from the downloads. obviously the first party games are not effected by the 2nd problem.
