Just install onto your D drive, it makes no difference where you install it. Unless its add-ons for software already on C.

Im guessing you have a partitioned HDD. And you want to move space from D to C ?

You cant do that im affraid. All you can do is free up some space on C by deleting junk you no longer need.

Are they separate physical disks or partitions on one disk? If it is a single physical disk you can repartition using software like Partition Magic http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/overview.jsp?pcid=sp&pvid=pm80.

An alternative would be to move some folders from C: to D: or to move the paging file.

i dont really want to touch partition magic because i never understand what im doing, what do you mean by paging file, i didnt know i could install onto D drive i thought everything installed onto C drive by default but it should let me change during install so i can browse to D right?

In most installs you get the option to install to a different partition recognized by the OS. Some programs still need to install parts of themselves to the C drive (i.e. system32 etc. ) but 4GB should be more than enough. Try defragging the c drive as well, might free up some space for you

Move the paging file and if its XP with hibernation enabled move the hibernate file as well. If you want more advice on this feel free to PM me.

1 . The page file is virtual memory used when the memory of your PC is full. It can be moved by: right click my computer > properties > advanced > under performance click settings > advanced > under virtual memory click change > MAKE SURE first on D you set it to 'system managed paging file' and on C you set it 'no paging file'.

You will have to restart, Depending on your memory this should free a gig.

    2. Move My Documents will help: Right click the my documents folder. Click move.. select a location on D and tell it to move all files and folders. Its better having them on D: anyway because if windows goes belly up on C and you renistall your documents will be unaffected.

    3. Another option: Open your windows folder, turn on view all files > delete all the folders with $NTUninstall at the start, you don't need them they are for unistalling updates and can take up up to 700MB.

    4. Right click on the the trash can and reduce the allocation of the recycle bin by half will save space.

    5. Go to the control panel and add/remove. Make sure you unistall programs you don't use
