Don't worry, I get this reaction a lot. It doesn't have a beach, or a flower, or is over-processed, or a stream taken with a long shutter speed, or whatever else is boring.

I don't think it's a perfect shot, and to me, the writing isn't the interesting part, the lady's hand is. Hands have personality; often great portraits involve other parts of the body. A little achingly annoying is that there's no context for the photo; these kinds of shots work very well as part of a series with a specific theme or subject matter. Take a look at some of the past exhibitions in Source magazine (google it - its UK/Irish).

Thanks Dada, it was the writing on the mug that caught my attention while at a football game and I just framed the area and shot. I felt when I uploaded it that the context of an older womans hand with an almost burnt out ciggie along with the mug of tea was the interesting aspect.

Normally I shoot sports only and rarely do I ever get an opportunity to try something else. In this pic I knew I wouldn't have much time as she was only having a fleeting word with someone before she too went back about her tasks.

You still haven't revealed to us what the 'interesting' text on the mug is :D

After waiting so long it better be something to do with Alchemy, or other, just as interesting text...

The text "antipsychotic" is clearly visible on the mug;), though perhaps it should read anti-psychotic or anti psychotic.

I would agree that the hands are my focal point, they tell a story.
