I put an add in buyandsell to sell an item. I got a call from a guy who wants to buy, but he me if I take laser card, I said no but he can use paypal to send me the money using a credit card. I just ealiased that he is sending approx me 600 euro and I assume paypal are going to nab some of this in commission etc. Should I make him pay extra for this charge, or is the seller always expected to swallow the cost? I'm not sure if I can get him to just pay cash but I'll try.

have you just set up your paypal because if you have paypal may freeze the account straight after the transaction due to suspicious money laundering or something to that affect.

fyi: i think paypal fees are 3.5%

Hi , If it was me i would not touch it full stop.If he wants it so bad get him to do a bank transfer where he pays the money straight into your account. If you are not paypal vertified you will only be able to accept £250 per month into your account. There are a lot of credit card scams going about at the minute so be careful.I have got caught out about 5 times in the last 2 weeks because of stolen credit cards. The item is bought from ebay , the buyer pays by a stolen credit card , i post the item and 2 days later the money is taken back out of my paypal account as a stolen card was used and theres not a thing paypal will do about it.Go for bank transfer and forget about paypal.

Unless you are doing a reasonable turnover per month with your paypal account you will pay high fees.

Get them to pay you by EFT

Someone wanting to use a Laser card to pay for an item out of the Buy & Sell? That sounds extremely dodgy and is more than likely a scam. Insist on cash, either in person or sent registered post, could also get a Postal Order by registered post, or get the money transfered to your bank account.

The seller (you) would normally be expected to swallow the Paypal fees too.

The seller always pays the PayPal fee's as the fee in question is a receiving fee. You can request that the buyer pay extra to cover this though if you accept PayPal as a payment method the fee's come with it.

Quite a few laser scams going about these days.

Postal order / bank draft / cash is the only way with a private seller unless you can verify other details.

And in addition, banks do not recognise postal orders & bank drafts as cash until 5 working days after being lodged.

And whilst I have great respect for all, too many of these scams involve people of North African origin. (1st hand experience - 4 attempted scams with laser cards and all with gardai)
