Welcome to the mac community, teckoda. :)

Did you get the imac new? If so it should have come with a Mighty Mouse which does have a right and middle click. It's a really great mouse once you get used to it. You should give it another chance.

I'd say the mighty mouse is included

RIGHT lick is disabled by default ! , you have to enable it in the properties of the mouse in preferences

Plug it back it, it DOES have a right click :D Just press on the right side and you'll see.

EDIT: Sorry I didn't realise it was disabled by default. I don't remember having to activate mine.

The right-click got me too until i turned on the double-finger click on the drag pad of my MacBook (new Mac user here too :) ). Now it works like a dream when using a mouse is out of the question.

The look of the Mac is lovely, smooth transitions and pretty icons... the first boot up destroyed any reservations i had about owning one.

I'm sure if it's bootcamp or parallel desktop, but one of them can't tap into the Mac's cooling system properly... or so i'm told >_>

    Hello teckoda,
I am new to mac since xmas, i got a 17"imac and i love it.
The Professor is right, give the mighty mouse a chance. The only problem i have with it is that the little ball gets dirty and then it sticks, other than that i like it. I don't love it ( the logitech --spelling---i used on my windows was excellent, but it has no usb to it, so the mighty mouse was it then)

There are a lot a wise people in here like the professor, and i strongly recommend you come in here everyday, read other peoples post and ask questions. it is a new system and coming in here a lot helps. I come in here nearly everyday, sometimes i don't log in, i just look and leave.

It will take you 6 weeks, maybe nore, maybe less, to get your head fully around the mac system and forget about windows. After that 'getting your head to mac ' period, its all uphill.

Hers one cool trick i love--- open a few applications all at once, eg--- iphoto , safari, itunes, garage band and a few more if you want
now press the F9 key at the top of your keyboard, click on one off the apps---click F9 again if you want--- thats just one cool trick. there is a thread in here somewhere pointing out cool tricks i will try and dig it up for you.

Ah right, well i never knew there was a right click on the mac mouse.. i just switch to my Dell mouse right away. Which i prefer to be honest, even the scroll wheel annoyed me on the Mac Mouse.

I wouldn't say its BootCamp that can access the cooling system correctly as its developed my Apple themselves. So i doubt they are going to publish something that could destroy all their customers machines..

triple h, thats a very very handy trick.. and I'm glad you told me about it.. saves me time trying to digg up the other apps. Also, are you on msn? or anyone here for that matter.. its nice to chat with other Mac users.. all my contacts are windows users :P

If the system isn't getting the correct power control, it's normal response is to just run the fans constantly, to prevent the possibility of damage.

The first release or two of Boot Camp were quite prone to stuff like this, as the driver support was incomplete. The first release had no support for iSight cameras, backlit keyboards, the Sudden Motion Sensor, the Ambient Light Sensor, and its power management was spotty at best. They've worked out these issues over time, however.

Oh, and if you want a neat Mac trick, try this: Open a document, and look at the titlebar. See the little icon representing the document to the left of the title? This is called a Proxy Icon, and you can drag it anywhere on the system and it acts just like dragging the real file. So, drag it to the dock onto another application icon to open it in that app instead, or drag it, press F9, and drop it into another open document, or else drag it to a Finder window and move it to another folder.

You'll notice that the Mac OS won't complain about moving or renaming a file while it's open. If you want to jump quickly to the folder that contains the document you're working on, command-click on its title, and click on any of the folders in the list that pops-up.

Oh, and try dragging a file/folder over a folder in the Finder*, and tapping space. This is a useful way of dragging into a nested folder.

*Try saying that 10 times fast

A wireless mighty mouse is the man (usually) though sometimes it loses its right-clicks. Battery life is excellent though.

I think that most of Apple's hardware and software is extremely well designed but you couldn't pay me to use any mouse they have come up with in the last 10 years.

Welcome to OSX teck dude. I write this from Vista on my macbook, I do still need Windows for certain tasks unfortunatly.

Im with leeroybrown on this one.

The right click on the wireless mighty mouse is FLAKEY.

Its not so bad in OSX, but in certain situations in Vista, if it registers a left click instead of a right click, which it often does, it can cause a pain in the bum.

At some stage I might pick up a bluetooth wireless by logitech.
    I hearz good tingz.

PS, if you havent tried it already, check out holding down APPLE and pressing TAB, to go between apps, If you want to quit one while youre doing this, simply select it and whilst still holding APPLE, press Q.... nifty..

Regarding widgets (f12) the stickys are the only ones I use, but I love them.

Another tip, for a screenshot at any time, hold APPLE, SHIFT, and press number 3. The png will appear on your desktop, and you can quickly crop it in preview. Takes seconds. Nifty.

Pixelgirl has a large collection of icons for OSX. To change the icon of something, right click on it and GET INFO.... Do the same for your icon. In the get info properties, select the little icon ("the icons icon") and APPLE C it... apple V on the one you want to replace.. NIFTY!
