This man was the salt in all Donegal wounds watching this match on telly earlier. How the hell can RTE employ this man who was shoutin at a point in the first minute as though it had won the game for them. He's an embarrassment for RTE.

id have to agree with you there, he is a dreadful commentator. Regardless of the way i phrase this its going to sound bitter - but ger canning is a bad as darragh maloney when it comes to dublin - he was incredibly biased towards dublin, i spend 2 weeks looking for a ticket and couldnt get one, i then have to listen to that idiot willing dublin on to win......

In fairness, Kevin Mc Stay was laughing when Meath were coming back into it. Even if Graham Geraghty thinks he's nothing more than a whinging Mayo man.

While on the other side, we are subjected to the utterly one-sided analysis of Colm O'Rourke. Some things never change.

Willing Dublin to win are you for real? did you listen to the last match when he nearly ejaculated in excitement when Meath got an equalising point?

I disagree. I think Jim is streets ahead of Marty M. He seems to have a great knowledge of the games - particularly hurling - and has great passion.

He was way better doing the sideline interviews that either of the girls this year. Bad call by RTE to take him off sideline interviews.

The only thing when he's commentating is that he talks a bit too much, but I think he's quite good. I know he's well respected by a lot of the players and managers.

I probably put him at Number 3 behind Maloney and Canning.

Ah, I dunno bout that. Marty Morrisey has some comedy value with the way he says fabulous. Jim Carney's voice is just annoying.

I've always found Martin Carney to be objective.Seems that when Dublin are ahead,he'll compliment them nicely but when Dublin are in trouble,he's quick to jump on them first opportunity he gets.

Darragh Maloney, not biased in any way I don't think. He's more of a color commentator that adds to the spectacle of games, making games more entertaining with great analysis on facts, momentum and action on the pitch.

Marty Morrissey, the man with a frog in his throat is extremely annoying.Clare and Laois are clearly his favourites.

In fairness to O'Rourke he does slag the Dubs during the half time and before, e.g. Dublin fans and late starts but thats just banter, he is very unbiased in his analysis, unlike Brolly where everything's fantastic except Donegal and surprisingly Derry. Something to do with not favouring Derry and just hating Donegal from his playing days.

I'd say Canning and Maloney as commentators and McStay and Carney as co-commentators, excellent, with Tony Davis analysing and maybe Jarlath Burns from the Championship on BBC.

Agree on Carney, Martin that is. Jim just doesn't suit TV.

I think Maloney and Canning are quite neutral, will try and not say anything either way. Probably from the old school, tho obviously they never could match. O'Muireartaigh and O'Hehir.

Well I don't know about bias but as commentators they are a pretty bad bunch.

Ger Canning is a diabolical commentator. He is 20 years commentating on GAA yet at least half the time he gets the players wrong. And not like confusing Ben and Jerry I mean he confuses tiny corner backs with big hulks of midfielders. Then he never calls a foul right. Early on in the Dub Meath game yesterday one of the Meath guys did a sliding tackle\threw the boot in.
What does Ger say? " I think the refs spotted a push there"
Cue McStay "No, no, no one of the Meath guys put in the boot, obviously enough"
Christ McStay spends half the day correcting him.

Jim Carney is annoying though I'll give you that. Even though he does have a decent knowledge of the game, perhaps the best of all the commentators.

I'd have Maloney doing the main Football games and Marty doing the Hurling. Ger can get the reject games for the highlights.

I'd love to hear Cyril back as co-commentator for the hurling. A laugh a minute but at the same time extremely smart and experienced

canning is really annoying. Its clear to me he loves Kerry and Gooch. He can't even speak properly.Watch the 2005 Championship on dvd and in the Mayo-Kerry semi,Mayo score from a tight angle and what does he say...."thats so diificult to CUM off"...hello Ger,there are children watching :D

Also Maloney can have his dull moments or jokes.Dublin vs Offaly in 06 and McNamee gets sent off. What does Maloney say ..."Its going from bad to worse to Offaly"....perhaps he intended the pun awfully.

Well he is from Clare, I have played 5-a-side against him a few times and he is always in a Clare jersey.

I personally can't stand Kevin McStay, not sure why, he just annoys me

Agree that Jim Carney probably isn't that well suited to tv commentary, better as a presenter/sideline interviewer or something like that. He's a knowledgeable GAA writer though, writes for 'The Tuam Herald' newspaper in Galway and is well respected. He's originally from Milltown in North Galway.

Morrisey is from Clare, Canning is a Cork man, and I'm not too sure about Darragh Maloney. I'd rate Maloney as the pick of them at the moment, Canning is ok but Marty is just annoying. Anyway, all of them are better than the guy who commentates football on Setanta, he's brutal.
