    thanks in advnce

I've heard of stuff like this happening. The files should still be there but parts of your system is looking for them in the old hd name. Aliases and recently used items won't work. Ignore the Finder sidebar and look in the Users folder (is there a second user that got created?), your music folder should still be there.

im over here in boston, went down to the apple store where there's a 'genius bar'
he answered all my questions and sorted this issue.
when i rename ed the drive, it added the new name as a new user, jsut like in windows, dare i mention the word!
so he deleted the other user, and kept the original one!
    job done, nothing lost!
    thanks for the reply prof!
