    Ryanair flights to Brussels cancelled
    Saturday, 16 June 2007 19:55

Ryanair has warned customers that its flights to Charleroi aiport near Brussels this weekend have been cancelled.

Security staff at Charleroi Airport walked off the job yesterday in a dispute over privatisation.

Talks to resolve the dispute broke down yesterday evening and the airport advised Ryanair that it could not guarantee security this weekend.

Tonight security staff at the airport have decided to suspend their action, allowing flights to resume after two days of cancellations.

Inward and outbound flights, were expected to resume from at the airport from around 8:00pm according to a union spokesman.

But an airport spokesman said that Ryanair, the main airline using the airport, had cancelled its flights until Monday.

The strike suspension came after the transport minister for Belgium's southern Wallonia region, Andre Antoine, offered a deal to assuage workers fears over privatisation measures.

Under the deal the government promised to keep hold of 51% of a new firm the security workers were being asked to join. Their jobs and wage levels would also be guaranteed.

Airport management advised passengers not to come to Charleroi before checking their flight on the airport website www.charleroi-airport.com.

Jaysus, and I'm off there next week. Have travel insurance anyway, but still, it'd be so inconvenieant. Lets hope all is done and dusted by Wednesday week.
