My friend has been telling me that instead of changing my money into the local currency, i would be better of to change it into American Dollars to use over there. Does anyone know anything about this? Also what is the best way to bring my money over, i.e. cash, travellers cheques??

No not at all. You can use US dollars in Laos and Cambodia, but in Thailand you're best off using Baht. Don't change anything before you go, just take out money from the ATM when you get there (if you keep your visa topped up in the positive, then you don't get charged fees when you make a withdrawal). You can move the money over regularly using online banking - its the best and cheapest way we found!

Don't change your money into Dollars. It's a waste of money as you are loosing money by exchanging from Euro to USD and from USD to THB.

Every money changer in thailand takes Euro. Usually you even get a better rate for it then with the USD.

You can exchange money straight away in the Airport. Take bigger notes (50s), as they usually have a slightly better rate.

    See the current rates at:

    http://www.bangkokbank.com/Bangkok+Bank/main.htm

Most money changers give you these rates or sometimes even slightly better rates.

I have got all of money in 50 euro notes, so what from what i am gathering i am better off not changing anything until i arrive over in bangkok airport and then just change it all over there into thb. Cheers lads for the help.

Will my laser work in Thailand? I have the Cirrus symbol on the back which I've been told is what you need for your credit card?

Do most places accept credit/laser cards in Thailand?

Yep dont even consider changing money into US dollars for Thailand, just bring your ATM card and then get out baht while your there, if your going anywhere out of the way then just stockup on baht before you leave the main cities / islands

I cant really remember about the credit / laser card thing in Thailand but I would be doubtful that many places would accept unless your staying in the more upmarket places, your better off just sticking to getting cash out of ATMs for the entire trip

Don't bring any USD or even Euros cash... Use ATM card in airport on arrival, its much easier. On my last trip I only had enough cash for flights / airports and then straight to ATM in BKK. Worked a dream. I brought USD on my first trip and got ripped off on exchange. My AIB banlink/laser and credit cards both ok. But AFAIK you can't use for cashback like you can here.
Do be careful of credit card skimming. Would only recommend paying with it in up market places such as good (brand/chain) hotels. I got charged a few hundread baht 'administration free' once in a smaller BKK hotel.
