Just wondering if anyone can reccomend any good hotels in Cologne. There's a group of us going over for the christmas markets in december so we want somewhere central. Thanks for the help.

It all depends on whether you want to find something cheap and cheerful or something a bit more expensive. The main Weihnachtsmarkt is at the cathedral (beside the central station) with the rest within a 5-10 minute walk away. Have a look here for hotels: http://www.koeln.de/en/tourism/hotels.html
The city is relatively safe, particularly in the centre, so there's no particularly dodgy areas to watch out for. Public transport is very good aswell which means that you don't necessarily have to stay right in the centre.
Have you booked flights yet? I'm only asking because there are no direct flights from Ireland to Cologne during the winter. German Wings fly Dublin to Cologne but it's only during the summer months. Alternatively, you could fly to Frankfurt-Hahn with Ryanair and get a bus to Cologne from there (takes about 2.5 hours) or fly to Düsseldorf with Aer Lingus and take the train from there (takes 35 minutes).

We stayed here and found the prices reasonable. Hotel was very clean, had a nice breakfast buffet and I enjoyed it there. It is not hard to get around with the tram things 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

We don't want something very expensive. average price I suppose. I won't pay more than €70pppn. I haven't done any bookings for the flights. My cousin did that so I've no idea what the route is at the moment.

This place seems fairly good alright. It's quite central and less than a 10 minute walk to one of the main markets (Neumarkt). From there its another 5-10 minutes walk to the cathedral through the main shopping street. And if you're feeling lazy, you can just take the tram. There are lots of bars and restaurants around where that hotel is too.
