only right channel audio in tv?

    after my reinstall im having some problems with audio on live and recorded tv.
    to start let me say if i play the file outisde in mce in wmp11 i get perfect stereo sound and spdif passthrough of the audio to my digital deocded so i know the tv is coming in correctly - this is definitely an audio playback issue with mce - im thinking codec but cant be sure.
    everything else is working fine and im baffled as i thought mce was just a front for wmp...

    anyway the problem is that the sound is quite low and only outputting on the right audio channel.
    normal mce sounds come out in stereo so no problem there.

    does anyone have any ideas or thoughts about where to look?
    ideally a method of changing the default audio codec for mce mpeg2 similrar to the utility for video ( i tried a reghack to changr it to ac3filter with no luck)

    ignore the above post.
    the sound is only coming out as right channel as there is in fct only one channel of sound coming throught the dodgy scart to svideo+red&white adapter i bought the other day.
    when played throughb media player it prefers ac3filter which passed ot to the amp while greatly increasing the volume.
    i didnt cop that it was digital while i was using the left / right sliders in wondows.
    ahh, back to maplins for an exchange

    i switched from ntl to magnet while i was reinstalling so had to buy new adapters as the magnet stb's propreietary cables arent supplied by magnet and they only give you a scart adapter.
