    HI guys,

one of the new things in the states is at the moment is something called satellite radio which is a sub based radio station with channels to cater for everyones taste.

www.sirius.com and www.xmradio.com/ are the two main companies in the states.

I do not think that the british or any european radio stations are going to appear on irish DAB.

but if there was a service provided where you could get sports services and specialised music services. would this be something worth paying for?

subscription radio...would you pay 4 votes

I certainly wouldn't pay for any services that exist right now. The content would want to be pretty amazing and accurately tuned into my tastes to be worth paying but even then I'd be hard pushed.

I'd pay - I've used sirius in hire cars in the states before, and wished I could get something similar here.

I would pay, provided that there was a good deal of coverage of widely various topics, from different music genres to sports and so on...

if the service was as varied as sirius or xm in the states then yes, as long as the variation in station catered to my tastes, and it had good DJ's (as in, not the usual crop of crap FM in ireland has).

i was toying with the thought of european satellite radio for a while, and even ignoring the satellite-only stations (morning shows that curse, fancy musicians as DJ's etc.), there'd be interest from people who want to listen to BBC or Radio Netherlands in other countries that ordinarily don't get those stations via "normal" broadcast.

afaik there is some consortium somewhere that wants to run a european radio network on eurosat, but how far along they are with the idea is anyones guess.

In the age of podcasts, MP3 players and digital radio it would want to be VERY VERY special to make people consider paying
