    saw this on a website.

    Are they legal to wear?

I have seen folks on really old bikes with them but wouldn't use it outside of very short distance hops.

    any info on them.

    also known as "piss pots"

legal to wear , as long as they have the relevant BSI or CE stamp.

It might be legal to wear if it has the correct stamps etc, but would you really trust your head to something like that. I wouldn't offer any facial protection in a crash and I doubt it would stay in place to protect the rest of your head.

was thinking about that - but may use it purely for very close errands.

so won't be going over 20-30 ish.

won't wear it on a major road at all - too many flies.

I have seen a similar helmet in the flesh, so to speak, and it was really cheap and nasty. It had a really thin single layer of foam inside, and as far as protection goes, you may as well wear your hood up instead. I dont care what stamps or approval it has, or how short your trip, if it was like the one I saw I wouldnt wear it on a kids tricycle.

That sort of relaxed attitude towards saftey gets people killed. What if when you pull out of your driveway and a car hits you at 40kph, you're probably doing 10kph yourself but you've just had a proper highspeed collision. You wouldn't stand a chance with that thing on your head.

Why not just buy a proper helmet. Rule of tumb when buying a helmet is buy the most expensive one you can get, you only get one head, make sure its well protected at all times.

I've seen some of these helmets and they were OK, but there's too many of them on the market from different manufacturers, so I wouldn't buy one of these over the inet. Check it in the flesh first.
Safety stamps on the helmet is good business, lots of manufacturers pay tests for one or two types, rest of their products is "road illegal" although they are the same quality like them tested types. Even on Arai or Bell helmets is "not for road use" sticker. It's simply too expensive to get tested every single type and subtype of helmet.
