Dick Roche gets his FF colleague dempsey off the hook and lands a live hand grenade in John Gormleys lap

RTÉ News has learned that the outgoing Minister for the Environment, Dick Roche, has signed an order that will lead to a resumption of work on the M3 near Tara.

Mr Roche has decided that the new National Monument found at Lismullen should be preserved 'by record', in other words, studied in detail and then the motorway will be built as scheduled.

The order comes under the remit of the Minister for the Environment and does not require Cabinet approval.

It will be the first controversy to hit the new Government, as the Green Party has long held that the route of the M3 is wrong.

John can reverse this of course.

    Apparently not.

The new Minister for the Environment, John Gormley, has signalled he will not be in a position to reverse Dick Roche's decision allowing the M3 motorway be built over an archaeological site near Tara.

Shortly after arriving by bike at the Customs House this morning, Mr Gormley said it would be 'fair to say that I can't do anything about my predecesor's decisions'. ......................

But they will undoubtedly find yet another national monument right next door and John will act on that :p
Roche said it would have been a discourtesy to hand over a difficult decision as it amounted to passing the buck.

An associated N52 bypass of Kells is included in this scheme. I wonder when is it supposed to be built? Probably last of all?

Work is on going on the Dunshotgun bypass and Kells-Navan. That probably includes the N52 bypass so it may be under construction.
