Grade 3 is fairly good condition
3.5 is very good like a car here a few years old maybe with one small scratch
4 is fairly mint and above should really be pretty much as new.

    Roughly that is though.

    courtesy of ibc japan,

    GRADING SCALE:

5 Brand new or almost new
    4.5 Very good condition
4.0 Above average to Good condition
    3.5 Average - Good condition
    3.0 Below average condition
    2.5 Poor condition
    2.0 Very poor condition
1.0 Suspension, Engine, Transmission or Exhaust modified or in severly bad condition beyond normal vehicle specifications
    0 Vehicle has accident history

All grading is subjective and depends on the age and mileage of the vehicle. For example; A new vehicle with extensive scratches or dents on the outside would grade higher than a 10 year old vehicle with 100,000 kms in the same condition.

Grading should be used as a general guide but the condition notes for each vehicle should be specifically noted and reviewed prior to buying.

cant post the link as you need to be logged in to the site, but you get the idea

Also note that a grade 3 - 3.5 could easily be a grade 4 at another auction, some grade alot harsher than others (which is what you want really), at least if their strict and you see it's a grade 4 you know it's going to be in good condition.

By the way, look at the auction sheet more than just the grade, it will give you far more detail about the cars condition than just the grade.
