Is it really possible to get a good reconditioned laptop? If so where? My budget is only about €400.

Most places don't bother with recons. Not worth the hassle.
You could however get a tasty little Dell for 448.99 brand new here.

Go with the cheap Dell as mentioned, maybe pay a bit extra for the warranty.

Are there any half decent laptops anywhere for around the €200-270 mark? The dell website never seems to work for me.

Also a bit OT but does anyone know the max value ok a 3v voucher?

Try dell outlet on ebay. Bought an inspiron 9400 the other day for 890 and the same spec is 1499 on the dell website. The come with a year warranty too. Give it a look.

well my laptop is a recon one...so speaking from personal experience i would go for a ibm thinkpad..esp the T series.

    They're built like a tank..solid & reliable...

you can get one on the web easy enough>>> i.e. ebay

An old laptop has probably been dropped / abused a lot , factor in another €100 for a reliable hard drive and > €50 for a battery and you are most of the way towards the price of a shiney new laptop with warranty , legit version of windows and all the rest.

    Well guys,
Thanks so far for the advice I do think I will end up going with the Dell cheap one. I have bought 2 off them in the past and they are really good to deal with unless you get caught up in the follow up service call, email loop. very annoying!

    Cheers

    OK
