Internal Audio Missing - MBP

    Here was the problem:

My internal speakers are GONE!!! My audio output was set to DIGITAL OUT and no other option was available.

With NO HEADPHONES plugged in this WAS the problem:
    - Volume is GONE... no alerts, no audio, no startup sound NOTHING
    - Volume keys on the keyboard do not respond,l I simply get a 'forbidden' logo, you know the one you get sometimes the circle with the line...
    - Volume slider does not move
    - The red light is also on in the audio socket (you know the jack glows red because of the laser in there to send audio digitally if you were to use an optical cable)
    - it fecked.. so I do all the usual things to check what is going on, being a bloody audio head... nothing.. every APPEARS to be normal. So... Katie starts to panic.

    Plugs in headphones:
    - Slider works again
    - All volume present and accounted for
    - buttons work

    Boot-up in XP
    - Volume is also fine!

After much panic, and checking every audio setting on the machine.. I resorted to SERIOUS depths and decided to try and force deactivate the digital light by getting a headphone jack (unconnected) and putting it in HALFWAY into the socket and doing alot of jiggling - after about 2 mins of this, the light went off, problem solved, crisis averted.

Im going to leave this here though, in case anyone else ends up with the save problem!
