How rare?

Ok flicking through the sky stations today I came across a station called xleague.tv (291). I hadn't seen this before so watched it for awhile. One of the shows had a retro section and today's game on it was "Twister" on the 3DO. I'd completely forgotten about this console, probably cos I've never seen one outside of a shop, but it got me thinking what's the rarest piece of gaming history that people own?

I've got nothing pre mega drive anymore but I'm interested in seeing what's out there.

There's a big confusion at the moment on ebay between rare and desirable. Most things people label as rare aren't.

    Some rare(ish) Sega Stuff I have;

    Sega Nomad
    Sega Master system converter II
Sega Genesis 3 (Rare over here I guess :D)

    Few Rareish megadrive games.

    M.U.S.H.A
    Super Fantazy Zone
    Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel
    Asian Golden Axe 3
    The Story of Thor
    Samurai Showdown

I have a lot of games that aren't rare but are sought after and would be considered such. Like Dune 2, Gunstar Heroes, Golden axe games, streets of rage games, Marvel games, Boxed 32x games...etc.

Same with my other consoles actually. Have a decent copy of Zelda boxed for the nes. Final fight guy and Chrono Trigger for the snes. Some other "rare" snes rpgs. Vib ribbon and Devil Dice for the ps1. Meh. Nothing I'd really consider truly rare. I suppose Final Fight Guy may be as it was only released as a rental.

I'm not really into the whole rare thing. I see so many people buying games simply because they are rare. A lot of which are actually rubbish.

i have a 3do , doesnt work tho but i have all the games ever made for it.

I'm buying a Neo Geo Pocket Color tomorrow which itself is not too rare, but some of the games I'm getting are hard to come by (though they may not be the type that i might play too much).

The other thing is that the guy who's selling it to me also has 2 Wonderswans for sale (which seem really hard to come by) and he's bringing one of them to for me to look at.

Haven't an idea about the price, but I'll bring along a bit of extra cash just in case ...

    :D

KdjaCL I be tempted to make you a offer for the 3D0 games. I had the console when it was first out and I thought any games ported from it to the playstation where better on the 3D0. Return fire was savage, Road Rash was great too. But my favourite was need for speed. The first and greatest need for speed of them all. Star fighter was excellent too

And you can't forget Night Trap :D or Wing Commander III or....

    I have couple of things,
    An MB Vectrex, with multicart
A Virtual Boy with 7 games,
A CDX, combined megadrive and Mega cd,
A 6 switch woody 2600 and a black 4 switch Vader 2600 and a copies of Pitfall and Defender II, nice!
    An atari 7800 with games
Vagrant Story, Kurushi, Castlevania, all rare playstation games.
Steel Battalion for my lovely Xbox.

Regarding the NeoGeoColor, European games are worth more than any other terrritory because they came in mini versions of the fullsize NeoGeo cart boxes, much sought after in Japan, above the cardboard standard boxes they come in there and in the states, try to get Pacman, metal slug and the beatemups for it, they're great, Last Blade is lovely.
Tons of stuff overall, I'd love an Amiga CD32 though!

I too have a 3DO, the big Panasonic, its a pal machine though, not as good as the NTSC one. Best things on it are Star Control 2, RR, Need 4 Speed, Return Fire and I quite like Incredible Machine and its version of Samurai Showdown.
The daisy chained controllers were genius though, a clever solution to a still current problem.

    I got a

    Atari Jaguar
    Neo Geo pocket color
Philips CDI (with VCD Cart, Mad Dog + gun)
    Snes
    Amiga 600
    Dreamcast

All gathering dust in the press at home. Don't want to sell but have no where to put them really.

Have a few very rare games.

    Suikoden 2 PAL verion

Panzer Dragoon Saga unboxed :( Pal version

Vandal Hearts 1 + 2: Have a promo copy of Vandal Hearts 2. PAL versions as well. I'm almost sure that the promo of VH2 is an uncut review code copy.

    Castlevania SOTN PAL promo

    Panzer Dragoon Orta promo

Nights with the analogue controller. Stupid mother threw away the box

    2 copies of Xenogears.

Have a chipped V-Saturn as well at home, gets an awful lot of play time.

Have some other games, usually rare shmups and RPGs but they aren't springing to mind after last nights festivities.

Eh, don't really have anything in the terms of rare but more sentimental. Brother won a SNES & 14 games (7 at the time and another 7 came half a year later) before it was released here and it still works, our pride and joy.

Have a pong console going back 30 odd years thats still mint condition though the box is crushed to shìt and stinks to high heaven.

Only real rare thing I have is still boxed tape of Zaxxon on the C64. Oh, and also the Jeff Minter Game Meta Galactic Llamas Battle At The Edge Of Time boxed Vic20 tape :)

I've got a lot of C64 and Amiga stuff in the attic that i must really go through some day! I had a nasty habit of trading up when it came to consoles....

  • Moderators Posts: 5,580 ✭✭✭Azza

If you guys ever consider selling off some of your old consoles I would be interested in taking them off your hands.

    Just starting a retro collection.

Would be interested in the likes of 3D0's, Philip CDI, hell nearly all the stuff you say you have Logic...if I can tempt you:rolleyes: .

I have an old MSX at home. It was made by Sony and was home to the first ever Metal Gear game, though I don't have it. I've only got Track & Field and some weird Japanese old-Zelda type games. I spent many an hour bashing away at the keyboard playing track and field.
Not sure if they are rare or not but I never knew anyone else that had (or wanted) one.:D

It's a pity we can't get more folk to come forward and tell us the contents of their attics, there are so many classic consoles languishing up there while people like us could give those machines a great home. Ah well.

And as I said, anyone with an Amiga CD32 or a Colecovision, please step forward, you know who you are!

Was rooting through the attic the other day, found my old Commodore 64 and all the games. Flimbo's Quest, The Simpsons, Golden Axe and about a dozen more. Is there much interest in it these days?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 615 ✭✭✭daedalus2097

Have a Sega Game Gear with TV tuner, power supply (cos it ate batteries!) and maybe 10 games. Still worked fine last time I looked at it, but that was years ago... Also have 2 or 3 Atari 800XL machines, a huge box of tapes both original and *cough*backed up on a twin deck stereo (aah, them were the days) - not a single working tape player amongst them unfortunately though, and all attempts to record and convert the tapes for emulation have failed :( Slightly newer stuff: SNES with a handful of games, N64 with loads of games and accessories, Original-style Game Boy advance which I fitted a backlight to, and a whole heap of Amiga stuff which is getting gradually used up for making interesting custom hardware like MP3 player decks etc... :) Sorry, no CD32s I'm afraid...

Either way I should be able to sort you out, yeah. I have archives of all my old system disks... Floppy drive still working on it?

 ^^ WOW! Awesome is the only word!

Just a question? What do you plan to do with all that stuff anyway?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

Cheers cyber - I guess Ill pass it on to my son when he gets to the "gaming age" - im almost 26 but had such fond memories playing a lot of this stuff (not these actual machines because I only started collecing a few years ago, I think when i was young I just used to sell what I had in order to upgrade etc). I do play the jamma rig a fair bit (huge streetfighter fan), and hope to pick up most of the streetfighter cps2 boards over the next year or so. But again to answer the question I'll just pass it onto my son and hopefully the magic is still retained for him.

yes it is but i have to admit it isnt the worst game in my collection :)

My favourites on the console are need for speed (the first and arguable best version on any machine) , road rash, foes of ali, alone in the dark, another world and street fighter 2 turbo.

I remember expecting such good things...clay modelled dinosaurs gonna tear heads off each other and a monkey n stuff :p

But alas it was utter crap...and i threw it at the wall and broke it after 2 days  ..... the most enjoyment i got from that crappy game :)
