Quick question to confirm what I think and win an argument at the same time.

I'm applying for planning permission and there is no water scheme in the area so I will need to bore a well, now two of my mates reckon you can get a grant to cover 75% of the cost however my understanding is that the house has to be 7 years old to qualify i.e. new houses don't qualify can anyone clarify it please?

To the best of my knowledge there isnt a grant in respect of a well to service a new build but thats not to say that isn't one at all. I wasn't even aware that you could get a grant for a well to service a one off existing dwelling (other than a GWSS).

The nearest thing that Im aware of in relation to a new build is that you would have a reduction in the level of the development contributions for new dwellings.

In Cork anyway you can get a grant as long as you can prove that you have been living in the house for 7 years. There are a few site inspections by Engineers to ensure that the well is for your house and not the neighbour down the road.....I hope that I have proved you right:)

Up to last week, I worked for the Dept of the Environment in the water supply section (7 1/2 years) so I can categorically inform you that there is no grant available for you to dig a well. This is a matter for yourself to sort out if you want a water supply.

Hey Dave, dont you get the grant off the County Council as opposed to the Dept of Environment. In Cork you can definitely get a grant to get a well for your house
