Apartment Complex Sky Satellite solutions

hi ... I' sure this is a common thread posting here so forgive me if it is all too familiar ...

I live in an apartment complex where the only digital TV options is NTL (or whatever they are calling themselves these days) ... I'm sure you are all to familiar with the quality of their digital services so I won't rant about it ..

I am one of the directors of the management company and happen to agree with the idea of not allowing individual dishes. However, I'd like to investigate if a development wide alternative is possible (we have 119 apartments) ... and if so who to talk about setting one up ...

I guess there are two key cost elements to this - setting the system up from the dish to the existing co-ax infrastructure (which we own) ... and getting it maintained once the option exists ... including adding / removing new subscribers ... unfortunately we only appear to have one coax feed to the apartments ... so this poses a problem for Sky+ ... but even their basic services can't be as bad as NTL (can they ??!!)

The idea would be to offer our residents the choice between Sky and NTL.

    Can anyone advise ?
Are you aware of anyone who has sucessfully implimented a similar idea ?

Unfortunately from my experience it would be extremely expensive to do this as the existing cable may not be usable for the most part unless they have run cable to tap units on each floor. You could offer a basic terrestrial service and the option of satellite but without running new cable its tricky as NTL will not allow you to send other services down the same cable and it would be very difficult to do reliably in any case. . What sort of budget did you have in mind for this?

Thanks for the response ... I've no idea about budgets ... was hoping for some guidance ... to be honest ... it is more important to see if anyone else has done something similar ... I would hate to be the first to do this ... I can imagine the costs could get out of control ...

well I was approached by some residents in a similar situation but it never progressed and they started arguing with each other as to how it should proceed. Perhaps contact sky and see if they can offer a subsidised solution
