    Hey Folks,

There are some songs that I want which appear to be available only on iTunes. My question is, if I download from iTunes are the files playable only on an iPod? Are they AAC or MP3?
I see in iTunes there is an option to back them up to disc, does it do this as MP3 or AAC?

They are copy protected AAC and are only playable in that format on the iPod. If you back them up using the inbuilt back up I think they stay the same. If you make your own backups though by burning out to a CD they will become WAV files.

Note also that a lot of tracks on iTunes are now being made available without any DRM at all so though they'll still download in AAC you can use iTunes directly to convert to MP3 if you wish - I'm not sure though if you have to upgrade the iTunes software (ver 7.2 I think is latest) before you'll be made aware of that in the iTunes store?
