Ordered 2 of these last weekend and they arrived on Wednesday morning. Myself and the gf are happy out with both (although may end up getting rid of Vista as I'm not a fan. Still, nice having a licence to run Vista Business on it along with the installation media....)

Also, there's a shipping discount on at the moment which knocks 60 euro off the price, but it ends on the 27th of June. Also, the links posted by Voipjunkie seem to throw up errors from time to time but after a few goes the page will load...

The free shipping is a scam the 449 price included the shipping they have just added 60 euro on to the base price then they subtract the 60 euro so the price is 449

Ah yeah 450 is a great price just pointing out that the free delivery does not add anything to the deal it is the same price as when you paid for delivery

    1501 Inspiron Laptop now €494.39

Just enter the product code "N07152" in the search field in the top right of screen
    on the Dell site

You need to unselect the "Hardware Support" for the above price.

    €430 here

But that is with a sempron
    only 512mb of ram
and half the size hard drive

no where near as good an offer as the other one

I posted this in another thread but thought it would be useful here too

Here are the latest prices through http://www.dell.ie/epp. It's cheaper that going through the deals website
Enter the relevant code in the "Dell E-Value" section. Remove the XP bit if you want Vista

    Inspiron 1501 Laptop:
    E305-N07151(XP) - €430.22
    E305-N07152(XP) - €462.29
    E305-N07153(XP) - €497.74

    Inspiron 6400 Laptop:
    E305-N07641(XP) - €486.49
    E305-N07642(XP) - €508.99
    E305-N07643(XP) - €565.26

Thinking of getting E305-N07643 for €565.26
    Main specs are:
    Base - Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core T2130 Processor (1.86GHz,533MHz,1MB L2 cache)
Operating System - Genuine Windows Vista™ Business - English
    LCD - 15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display
    Memory - 2048MB 533MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]
Hard Drive - 160GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
Video Card - Intel® Media Accelerator 950 Graphics Up to 256MB shared graphics memory
CD/DVD Drives - Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive including software
    Primary Battery - 6 cell Lithium-Ion Battery (53 Whr)
    Modem - 56.6k V.92 Capable Internal Modem & Adapter - Ireland/Spain
    Wireless Local Area Networking - Dell™ Wireless 1390 802.11b/g Mini-PCI Card (for Dual-Core Processors)
Hardware Support - 1 Year Base Warranty - Collect & Return

That's the dearest of all the deals but it's mighty value and better to have a good spec laptop as hard to upgrade.

I've one question though. Is it better to go with the reliable XP OS or head the Vista route.

You will find them all there and stick 305 in front for Irish systems and XP at the end if you dont want Vista

Hi folks couple of questions can add windows 2000 and microsoft XP from my PC to my new laptop?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,521 ✭✭✭Fabritzo

Vista is grand, needs a gig of ram, 128gfx and a half decent processor would help.

I dont like Vista personally but I've left it on my machine as I work in IT and will need to know about it eventually for work.

That being said, it's quite straightforward to either wipe the drive completely or set it up to dual-boot with Windows XP (or 2000 if you prefer, though I'm not sure why) - I've done this with mine. I used this guide and didn't have any problems.

(I'll be playing about with putting Linux on it soon as well just for the hell of it :), will post up here once I've done it if anyone's interested).
