SKY HD and HD DVD

I am looking to get SKY HD and a HD DVD player. Would a DVD-only player/recorder make sense rather than a HDD one, seeing as SKY HD has a hard disk? Would two hard disks be a waste. Don't plan on doing major recording of programs.

do hdd + hd-dvd widely exist?

other than that, its all in your post.
you wont ever use the second hdd if you have sky plus.

Yup , as said , a HD ( hard drive I'm assuming ? ) DVD player will not be necessary if you get Sky Hd , if on the other hand if you mean high def player as opposed to hard drive , then thats another story.

A Sky Hd box has a 150GB hard drive ( 300GB really but only 150GB is available to you , the rest is for Sky anytime ) and with this you get to record approx 40 hours of HD content , and about 200 hours of SD content, so a HD DVD player/recorder is unlikely to be used.

    Cheers for the replies.

Actually, was indeed looking for a high def player/recorder.

Has the Sky HD box gone up in capacity? Thought it was 160/80.

Very scarce, think there is a panasonic out there. Going by your good advice, I won't be getting one!

well it was definitely not panasonic anyway. they use blu ray, not HD-DVD. i havent heard of High def + hard drive yet in pioneer, panasonic, jvc or sony. well, european models, not sure about the Japs!!

What type of DVD recorder should I look for? I've got a 1080p Sony LCD and would like to make the most of this screen.

The TV has 2xHDMI. If SKY is on one and a DVD recorer on the other can I record SKY onto the DVD? Wouild the DVD need to go through the SKY box? Don't suppose the Sky box has a HDMI in?

not sure why you want the dvd recorder.
as above you wont be using it for much programs?
if its for home movies youd be better off with a video editor on your pc.

you could then concentrate on getting a decent hd dvd player

I will want to do some recording.

I see that the Sky box has SATA and USB ports. Does this mean the HDD capacity can be expanded?
