Hi all, i applied for a job through an agency on tuesday. They called me about it and asked what my salary expectations would be i dont have a whole lot of exp in the area so i just said 2k more than what i am on now. The girl said thats fine.

I applied for another job today which turns out is the same job i applied for on tuesday the girl called me and she said the position is 4k less than what i am on now.

    Anyone know why this is?

I tried that but the second place said the company will go no higher than the current offer. in the meantime i have emailed the first company to confirm the salary with them.

It explains why you havn't had an offer of an interview from your first contact yet, your looking for more than they're willing to pay, generally agencies will be back to you in 1-2days with an interview offer if the companies interested.

Your second punt just found out what they're willing to pay, its less than your looking for so I don't think there's any point persuing it.

Why on earth would a company post a job with more than one agency. Its a farce.

they all post jobs with multiple agencies, a lot of people will only deal with one agency so if you don't place the post with that agency you miss out on that candidate.

Its dumb idea, no matter how desperate the agencies are.

Everyone does it. It does not make sense to give exclusive access to an agency as they get a significant percentage.

But then you get the same applicant applying as many times as you have agencies. So say you get 300 applicants, you'll get 600 or 900 applications instead.

I'd say the vast majority would apply to the jobs they see advertised. Not only those advertised by single agency, or wait for the agency to ring. At least not once they've had experience of agencies.

I don't get the point of agencies getting a significant percentage. Wha?

When I was looking for a job, I'd go on "job hunting binges", and apply for 30 - 50 jobs at a time, every two weeks. Had to keep some track of what jobs I went for, as after a while, I was applying for the same job again:o
