    2/4 - 3 handedStacks 450
Villain is bad. he is playing 44/12. He is a little tilted and calling my bets quickly.

Villain open limps on button. SB folds. I check with T5o

    Flop - 5d 5h Jd ($9)

I bet $8, he makes it $16, I make it $55, he calls.

    I think He has a Jack or flsuh draw, maybe 66 77 88 99

    Turn - 6h ($119)

I bet $88 He calls rapido.

    River - 9h ($295)

I have $300 left approx PSB. I still think he most likely hand is a Jack. I think he will call a bat of $160 with a Jack and he will check behind with anything but a Full house or a flush , maybe a missed diamond draw

    What's the play?

If you really think he has just a jack then bet the 160 and see if you can entice a call. If you check do you think he'll stick a bet in?

It looks like he is trying to outdraw you with a flush. I think 66 - 99 are out of the question.
On the river i would check/call . If you bet the river he will fold a missed draw, but if you check he might bluff at the pot.

Yeah, checking to induce a bluff sounds good here.

i dont think we can pass up the value of him calling a J with the prob that he is going to turn that J into a bluff, cos he prob wouldnt be capable.

I would prob just push, if he is tilted he will call you a lot with a J. Definately dont check if you think you are ahead of his range.

Sorry ignore, i thought the FD on the flop came in on the river.

i would often check, hoping he'll push, but it's been happening me a lot recently that the villain will just check behind. as such, i'd be more likely to bet in this situation.

I replied to the other version of this thread saying that I think check/call is better here. You may lose a bet if he checks behind with a jack that he would have called with but unless he is a complete idiot I don't see him calling your turn bet and a big river bet with a pair of jacks.

What you should be thinking about is the possiblity that he has you outkicked or has hit a house with one of the hands you put him on (66 or 99). If you make your intended bet for half your stack on the river what will you do if you get reraised all-in? You will be forced to call and in that spot a lot of the time you'll be behind. If he has hit a house and you check it he'll probably bet half your stack or so and you can get away cheap.

When it's a choice between getting taking a risk to get maximum value or playing it conservatively I would go for the latter here. You're out of position and could end up being stacked.

    so you advocate the check/call.

Lets say he can 3 types of hands.
    JX
    XdXd
    FullH/Flush

pot is 300. I have 300. he covers.

If I check he checks JX ,XdXd. I have shown alot of strength - he will rarely try a bluff in this spot and he would not bet his JX hand.

If he has FullH/Flush and I check he will bet.
Should I fold to any bet? Should I call a 1/2 pot bet?

If I am going to call his bet if I check then I should bet as otherwise I am putting my self in a reversio uber bad situation.

His range is heavily weighted to the Jx type hand. If he has a flush its a backdoor one.
So not to bet out is missing value - I had pokerstove twud be easier to see how much...

What about if he has a 5?

True - by checking you will miss out a value bet if he will call with a J. However I don't know if a bluff is too unlikely. When you check he may think that you have a busted FD yourself.
If he has FullH/Flush and I check he will bet.
Should I fold to any bet? Should I call a 1/2 pot bet?

Yes - you check/call. If he has you beaten then he has you beaten. But he may make a smaller bet. You may avoid losing your whole stack, as you would if you bet and get reraised all-in.
If I am going to call his bet if I check then I should bet as otherwise I am putting my self in a reversio uber bad situation.

I don't understand this reasoning at all.
His range is heavily weighted to the Jx type hand.

I don't know why you're so certain about this. I would have thought it's one of his least likely holdings given the action. Unless you have very strong evidence that he is a complete calling station I think you have to put him on some kind of strong hand.

My overall opinion is that given his calls so far I don't think your hand is strong enough to value bet. I think the money you will make by checking and calling a bluff, and the money you may save by checking and calling a smaller
bet when you're beaten, are worth more than the money you might make by betting and getting called by a worse hand.

Anyway that's my opinion, I'd be very interested to hear what anyone else things.

    thanks for post captain.

If, on the river, you have a hand you will call a bet with, you should usually bet. If not then your opponent checks behinds with hands that would have called a bet and bets his hands that have you beat -
So when you are ahead you don't profit but when you are behind you lose anyway!

Anyway - I bet $160 on river and he called with KJ.
Brilliant - except it was KhJh - he hit a backdoor flush.
