Hi me and friend where recalling classic arcade games. One game sprang to both of our minds and neither of us can remember its name. Was a combat racing game. It looked a little bit like super off road with twisty tracks. You can get weapons for your cars and tracks where part destructable with things like knocked down oil towers and bridge jumps. Think the arcade machines had 3 steering wheels on them. Anyone know what it was called...driving me nuts!

Actually one other game that I really loved in the arcades as well. Was a soccer game. Can't think of its name but was released around the same time as badlands /street fighter.

The only thing I remember was the goal scoring exploit. Basically you crossed the ball into the box and then headed it at the keeper who would knock it straight back to you you would head it back at him and he would do the same again. You did this about 3-7 times and he would eventually let the ball in.

    Any ideas?

Ah Badlands. I still preferred Super Sprint though.

    SEGA Virtua Striker 2 :D:D
I used to love that game, spent loads of my holiday in spain as a 10 yr old glued to that machine :p
And when ye completed the tournament you played against the SEGA ALL STAR TEAM
Or at least thats the one that comes to mind....was by far the best Soccer game in any arcade ever :D

Man, Badlands sucked balls compared to super sprint. As for football I'll always have a spot for Taito Cup Finals, hilarious game.

The soccer game I was thinking of wasn't virtua striker 2 judging from the screenshots. Think the game I'm thinking of pre-dates the virtua strike series.

The football game was called "Football Champ". You could also score straight from a throw in if you knew what you were doing! Absolute quality game. I used to play it in XL Bowl in Palmertown. They had the SF2 cabinet right beside it. Just give me a handful of 20p's a can of coke and I was there for the day!

Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off-Road Racer was my favourite of those top down single screen racers.

EDIT: Oh yes.. and I remember Football Champ... I loved how it shouted "Football Champ" on the title screen.

What was that driving game (top down with full track on screen?). Similar steering wheels to badlans but game was in black and white ?

Well it has to be Sprint 1,2,4 or 8 as they were all black and white. Super sprint was the first colour version of the top down view racer. I actually liked Badlands but this may be due to the fact I owned the cartridge for it on my c64 :)
Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off-Road Racer was good but I only played it later years thanks to the Amiga release and MAME. I think it had a lot more upgrades you can buy so I suppose it's better in that way.

I played Euro Football champ to death. Always remember it because it had so may tricks (Bugs) in it.

Yeah I remember this soccer game now...although I don't think this was the one I was talking about I'm not sure. Was there another game in the series that had club teams. Possible in the same football series. I can remember the menu's for picking teams where like black and you did not have to pick a star player?

Well if it's not Football champ it's got to be one of the Super Sidekicks games! The star player thing you mentioned has sparked a memory of 'Aces' in that series of games.

Head to either www.klov.com or www.system16.com and do a search :)
