hi all, i want to train as an EMT and was wondering if there anyone who has done it or is doing it now with any advice. i have contacted a few places to try to get information but no one has gotten back to me yet

are you doing training privately (is it expensive)??
Just really looking for advice on where to begin.

Would love to be an EMT in a few years...here's what I found before:

http://www.irishambulance.net/index.htm Some info and a good forum.

http://www.phecc.ie/ seems to be for people from abroad that are already trained...

Why not just go into a local fire station (if you're in dublin) or hospital and chat with a few paramedics on duty? Ive done it a few times and they've been really happy to talk about the job/money/training.

ok, theyre called paramedics, as said, call into your local station

the pay used to be on www.iarcsiptu.net but i couldnt get onto this site last time i tryed

have you any expirience with voluntarys or anything?? this will help hugely

    www.nats.ie
national ambulance training school, not currently doing privates i think, but their is a forum there where you can ask

the hse are supposed to take on 320 new paramedics in the next 3 years but dont take this as a gaurentee, might not happen until there are even less medics in the country. its at breaking point at the mo, it may need industrial action by paramedics to sort it out

as said, visit www.irishambulance.net and if you want pictures of vehicles etc visit www.flickr.com/photos/medic112

there is an ambulance service video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rbyIMHXLL0&mode=related&search=

any other questions, dont be afraid to ask....

yeh, there are a few but when i say a few, they are very limited, i know of only 1, its mainly men, alot of women dont want the job, there are more women than men controllers though.

ps......i will link you to a copy of a draft contract of employment if you like(but if you work in a hospital already you might have it,its the same nearly for everyone)
